William (Wild Bill) Henry Peckham Jr. passed away on December 31, 2017 from leukemia. Bill is survived by his brother, Bob Peckman; Joan Peckham, his ex-wife with whom he maintained a good relationship; daughters, Jennifer Herbert (Kirk Herbert) and Barbara Peckham; and grandchildren, Rebecca Mercer, and Ryan and Nathan Herbert.

Bill was born in New York City and spent his early years in New York state. Bill had a heart for justice which led him to go on a bus from New York to Florida to register African Americans to vote during the Civil Rights Movement. After college Bill became a programmer for IBM and was transferred to California in 1972. He retired from IBM after 25 years. Bill enjoyed many activities outside of work. He loved to fish, write poetry and spend time with family. He led a homeless feeding program at church and sang in the church choir and in the West Bay Opera chorus for many years. He volunteered to be in the church nursery on Mother’s Day year after year, so all mothers could attend services. Most of all, Bill loved being with family and he was active in Indian Princesses with both daughters.

The world has lost a man who loved people, gave generously, felt deeply, was a poet and maintained sobriety in AA for 24 years. He was appreciated for his intelligence, humor and heart for people.

A memorial service will be held January 27, 2018 at 10:00 AM, Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3151 Union Ave, San Jose.

Louise "Weegi" S. Wilson passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on December 26, 2017 in Saratoga, CA. She was born on November 14, 1946 in Washington, DC. She graduated from Gaithersburg High School in Gaithersburg, MD in 1964, and from Maryland General Nursing School in Baltimore, MD in 1967. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Health Arts in 1981 from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL.

Weegi met Tom Wilson in Ocean City, MD, they married in 1968 and in 1969 they moved to Silicon Valley. They had their only child, Brianna Lynn on April 20, 1982.

She volunteered for many organizations including Mom's in Touch, Saratoga Federated Church, Care Deacons, homeless shelters, and several bible study groups including Bible Study Fellowship and Community Bible Study. She worked at five hospitals and phone advice centers before retiring in 1994.

In 2007 at the age of 60, Weegi was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. She fought a brave battle for 11 years and had numerous procedures and operations during which she never complained and said that "it was an honor to be on this journey with the Lord." Her journey inspired countless others.

She enjoyed life to the fullest including her love of nature, especially the ocean and the beach, animals, travel, reading, bible study, dining with family and friends, and in recent years her grandchildren in Santa Barbara, which became her second home. Her greatest love was giving her love, laughter, time and heart to, and with, others, from all walks of life.

Weegi is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Wilson, her daughter, Brianna Spells (Barrett) of Santa Barbara and her grandchildren, Elliot and Adeline.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Saratoga Federated Church, 20390 Park Place, Saratoga.

Donations in her name may be sent to the family in the name of the Saratoga Federated Church Sustenance Fund and The Sovereign Order of St. Johns Hospitaller.

Donald Daniel Kern, loving husband of Rose Mary Kern for 68 years, proud father of Mary Kern, Margaret Clar (Richard) and William Kern (Suzanne) passed away on December 17 at home surrounded by his family. He was 92.

Don was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 8, 1925. He served in the Coast Guard during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Richey. A tool and die maker, he retired from NASA in 1987 where he was recognized for his skillful creativity.

Rene J. Champagne, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by close family and friends at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara on Friday, December 15, 2017.

Born in Kerkom, Belgium on February 16, 1933, Rene, son of Antoine Champagne and Marie-Guilluimine, nee Poelmans, moved to Canada in 1955. He became a US citizen in 1964. Known as “Champ” to friends, he was an avid aviation and mechanical engineering enthusiast. Rene worked for TWA for over 34 years, moving to CA with the company in 1965. He married Lilli on June 21, 1967 in San Francisco.

Rene will be sadly missed by his nurturing wife Lilli; his two loving daughters, Christina (James) and Theresa (Sergio); his grandchildren, who knew him as Bonpa, Tiegan and Kaj; and his brothers, Jacques and Georges.

In lieu of flowers, please consider gifts to the Humane Society as Champ had a special love for animals in need. Special thanks to the Kaiser Hospital and Hospice teams for the caring support.

Stephen Daniel Popovich, age 95 of San Jose, California, passed away on December 13, 2017. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on May 22, 1922 to Daniel and Margaret Popovich.

Stephen graduated from Conrad High School, Wilmington, Delaware in 1940. In 1943, during Navy flight training, Stephen attended a dance in Olathe, Kansas where he met his future wife, Helen Lally. The couple married on June 14, 1947 and they had a long and loving marriage of 70 years.

Stephen was a WWII Navy fighter pilot and he had over 50 combat missions in the Pacific flying an F6F Hellcat off the aircraft carriers USS Enterprise (CV6) and the USS Bon Homme Richard (CV31). He participated in the battles of the Philippines, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa.

After the war Stephen attended the University of Delaware where he earned a Mechanical Engineering degree. Stephen also attended a post graduate program at the University of Cincinnati where he obtained a professional engineering license.

Stephen was a founding member of Delaware Air Guard where he and his beloved younger brother, Peter, served together and flew P47 Thunderbolts in a reserve fighter squadron while they attended college.

In 1949, Stephen began a 38 year career with General Electric in the jet engines business as a development engineer and test pilot for the F86 Saber and F4 Phantom. Later in his career Stephen worked in various management positions at GE in the Aerospace and Advanced Nuclear Reactor businesses. Stephen retired from GE in 1987.

In 2005 Stephen was honored by the University Of Delaware School of Engineering as a Distinguished Graduate.

During their marriage Stephen and Helen had many wonderful adventures together. They lived in Shawnee, Kansas; Wilmington, Delaware; Cincinnati, Ohio; Norristown, Pennsylvania; and finally San Jose, California. Stephen was known for his love and dedication towards his family and friends. Stephen and his wife Helen loved to dance and travel. His other passions were sports, cars and aviation. Stephen was a devout Roman Catholic. Stephen and his family moved to San Jose (Almaden Valley) in 1974 and he was very active at Holy Spirit Church. Stephen was a member of Seniors in Retirement, and the GE Elfun Society.

Stephen was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen, who died on June 15, 2017, one day after their 70th wedding anniversary; and his siblings, Anne Thompson and Peter Popovich.

He is survived by his devoted son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Andreana; two very dear grandchildren, Mark (Sarah) and Stephen and his great-granddaughter, Charlotte, of whom he was very proud and loved so much.

Funeral Mass will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Holy Spirit Church, 1200 Redmond Ave, San Jose, CA 95120. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Holy Spirit Church.

Leila Ann-Marie Lemery-Liclican passed away on December 11, 2017 after 9 years of battling breast cancer. Always with a smile on her face and her upbeat personality, she inspired us all as she bravely fought the disease. She will be remembered and greatly missed for her kind and generous spirit by the many lives she touched.

She was a devoted wife and mother. She loved watching her sons play soccer, listening to Jacob play the piano, and hearing Nathan's joyful laughter.

Leila is survived by her husband, Albert; her sons, Jacob and Nathaniel; her grandmother, Lydia; her parents, Robert and Melecia; brothers, Patrick and Ryan.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 22 at St. Victor Church, 3108 Sierra Rd. in San Jose from 3-9 pm with a Rosary at 6 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Victor Church at 12 pm on Saturday, Dec. 23.

Rita O'Brien passed away on November 24, 2017 at the age of 56 from breast cancer. She was born in Los Angeles and was the second child of Nick and Martha Haniotis.

In 1984 she moved to San Jose, where she met her best friend and soulmate Kenneth O'Brien. They moved to Santa Clara and had two wonderful children, the light of Rita's life, Julia and Owen.

Rita retired from AT&T in 2011 after 30 years. She went on to work at Jeppesen digital aviation for 3 years.

2016 was a special year of traveling for Rita and the family. In early summer they took a dream driving vacation around the beautiful Emerald Isle of Ireland. Later in the fall Ken and Rita went to Wellington, New Zealand where daughter Julia was studying abroad.

A Trisagion Service is scheduled for Thursday, November 30 at 7PM at St. Basil The Great Greek Orthodox Church, 6430 Bose Lane, San Jose. Funeral and Interment are private.

Martha Beatriz Velasco

Martha "Maca" passed away peacefully with her family surrounding her bedside from Alzheimer's related causes. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, and friend anyone could hope to have. Martha was born in La Paz, Bolivia to Filiberto and Rosa Osorio. She was the younger of two children. Martha moved to San Francisco in 1944 with her older sister Teresa and brother-in-law Roberto. She graduated from St. Rose Academy in San Francisco in 1948. After graduation Martha moved back to La Paz and worked as a secretary. There she met and married Edgar Velasco in 1956. It was a given that they would leave Bolivia due to political issues and Martha insisted they come to the U.S. They landed in Miami, traveled across the U.S. taking in the sights and chose to live in San Francisco.

They had three children and eventually settled in Sunnyvale where they spent the past 47 years. Martha loved her children and family more than anything. She spent many years as a homemaker and later returned to the workforce eventually retiring from Macy's. She loved helping raise her grandchildren, cooking for her family, and had a fondness for ducks. No was not in her vocabulary when anyone needed help, she was welcoming to all and totally selfless. She had a great sense of humor and people could open up easily with her. She and Edgar had a large circle of friends and were often going to parties, camping trips, dinners, and concerts. They enjoyed their life together.

Martha leaves behind her husband of 61 years Edgar; her children, Lillian Calleja (Greg Payne), Ed Velasco (Mary), and Michelle Kennedy; grandsons, Brandon Calleja, Nicolas and Jason Kennedy, and Mario Velasco; and her great-granddaughter, Lilly Calleja. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews both here in the U.S. and in South America. She was always so full of life and will be missed by all.

A Rosary and viewing will be held Friday, November 17 from 2–4 PM at the Alameda Family Funeral Home, 12341 Saratoga Sunnyvale Road, Saratoga. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 18 at 1:00 PM at Gate of Heaven Cemetery Los Altos in the St. Clare Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) in memory of Martha would be appreciated.

Ida Mae Gonsalves entered into eternal rest on November 10, 2017 at the age of 80 at DawnView Care Home, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Ida was born in Waukon, Iowa; the 13th child of Mary and Patsy Welsh. Eleven children survived childbirth, and three are still living: Mary Lou Cota, Lloyd Welsh (Betty), and Bernard Welsh. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bob Gonsalves; three daughters, Lisa Hanson (Mark), Lori Kimball (Shawn), Kristi McCabe (Jeff); nine grandchildren; 67 nieces and nephews; and countless grand-nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of St. Patrick's Catholic High School in Waukon in 1955. She went to Mercy Hospital Nursing School, Class of 1958. She later earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Chapman College in 1984. She retired as a managing nurse from IBM in 2001 after 31 years with the company.

Ida "Kathy" and Bob were founding members of St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church in San Jose. She was a life-long volunteer, serving at her kids' schools, Camp Fire girls, the parish, and Sacred Heart Community Service.

She was a breast cancer survivor, diagnosed in 1997. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2009 and faced it with grace and courage. She will be remembered for her love of family, fashion-sense, and for always having a camera with her to keep a record of both special and silly family moments. She meticulously recorded the family history—through photographs, poems and stories. She created more than 50 family photo albums, a wonderful gift to her family. She and Bob loved to travel, and were blessed to take trips to many wonderful destinations over the years.

A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church at 10am with visitation from 9-10am on Saturday, November 18th. A reception will follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the

It is with much sadness that we say goodbye to our dear Fred, husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Fred was born in Chicago, Illinois, where many of his family still reside, and raised in Santa Clara. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Fred and Eileen Matalone. Fred was a three-sport star at Santa Clara High School, and he went on to become a record-setting quarterback at Cal Poly University in Pomona. He was an Honorable Mention selection to the 1966 Little Coastal College Football Team. During his senior year, Fred was elected season co-captain by his teammates. Fred's best friend and college teammate, Tim Hackworth, was an important person in Fred's life.

In addition to earning two Master's degrees, Fred enjoyed a 31-year career as a teacher and counselor for the Eastside Union High School District. He is survived by his wonderful wife, Mariangela, and was the devoted father to the jewels of his life, daughters Gina (Dale), Kari (Scott), Emily (Blake), and step-daughter, Lysa (Mike). Fred was a dear brother to Janeen (Bob), Nanci (Al), Terry (Sherry), Chuck (Laurie), and Suzanne. Fred was beloved Papa to fifteen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. In addition, Fred had many nieces and nephews and cousins who were dear to him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. A celebration of Fred's life will be held at a later date.

Carolyn J Salciccia, 78, passed away in her sleep on October 28, 2017. Born in Tacoma, WA to the late Delbert and Virginia Belfoy, she graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma and went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree from Stanford University and a Law Degree from Santa Clara University.

Admitted to the California Bar in 1970, Carolyn practiced family law for many years in San Jose. She served as a child advocate for CASA Silicon Valley. In her lifetime, Carolyn was an avid reader, world traveler and seamstress extraordinaire who delighted in fashion, adored her cats and loved her garden. She also loved Hawaii, good food, and jazz music. She was a member of many charities including Valley Monte League, San Jose Symphony Auxiliary, and San Jose Jazz Society.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Kevin Killen (Marilyn), Tracy VanLigten (Glen), Lia Prusha (Bryan) and Tom Salciccia, Jr. (Mark), Gina Salciccia (Jim) and MaryAlice Salciccia; her brothers, Richard Belfoy (Patricia) and Frank Belfoy (Valerie); her grandchildren, Adrien, Emily, Joe, Andrew, Lexi, Flynn, Connor, Evan, and Ada, who will miss spending time with her. She is survived and predeceased by ex-husbands, William Killen and Thomas Salciccia.

Debbie Batcha was born in Alliance, Ohio on June 12, 1965 the third of four daughters to Regina and Leonard Batcha. She graduated from Ohio State School of Dentistry in 1989 and moved to California to pursue her dream. She was the only out-of-state doctor to pass the State Boards on the first try that year.

There was nothing that Debbie loved more than being a dentist. She loved all her patients and especially enjoyed the relationships she developed with each one. She enjoyed making dental procedures understandable to her patients and had a knack for making people feel comfortable. She was frequently heard singing along to the rock music playing in the background. She truly was a "one and only!"

Chow was born in southern China, moved to Hong Kong with his family in the early 1950’s and then to Detroit, MI when he was 10. He graduated from Cass Technical High School and went on to earn a BS from Wayne State University. He had a talent for photography, and was the family photographer and videographer. He lived in the San Francisco Bay area for most of his adult life, and was recognized for his work as a bi-lingual election volunteer.

Richard "Rick" Wells passed away on October 16 in Walnut Creek. He was born on July 9, 1947 in Monrovia, CA. He graduated from Monrovia High School in 1965 and from Citrus College in 1972.

Rick worked at Tandon Magnetics in Chatsworth, CA during the 1970's. He and his colleague, John Moon were recruited by Steve Jobs to work for Apple. After leaving Apple in 1985 he then went to work for Sun Microsystems. He retired from Celestica in 2013. He enjoyed all of the travelling he got to do and picked up a strong taste for Asian food. When he retired, he was in the two million mile club with United Airlines.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Mary Wells; his children, Evan Wells, Sonja McHenry (Colin), and Zetta Reicker (Rick); and his granddaughter, Talula Reicker.

Betty left us and went to her homecoming with the Lord on Oct. 15, 2017. As a young child, she made a commitment to Jesus Christ and attended Sunday school in A.W. Tozer’s church in Chicago. Since 1973, she’d been a devoted servant and lover of God. She had been longing to go home to Heaven for many years, although her heart’s desire was to be raptured with the saints of God. However, we don’t think she’s sad she missed it because she’s in Heaven now!

Betty was born in Chicago, Illinois. She had two older brothers and one younger brother. She overcame a tumultuous childhood to become a generous, loving wife and mother. Because of her childhood, she had a lifelong passion to love and help hurting people. When the ice cream truck drove through the neighborhood, she would buy popsicles for all the kids, not just her own. Later in life, she would say, “I live to give.” She also lived to pray. All her loved ones knew that if they called with a problem, Mom’s immediate response was to offer prayer. In effect, her name was synonymous with prayer.

Her passion for people, the Lord, and the Bible turned into a career as a pastor and Healing Team Director. She served as a pastor for Cathedral of Faith from 1979 until shortly before her passing. She taught the same adult Sunday school class for approximately 30 years, endearing her to the hearts of many students. When Mom entered her assisted living home, we were asked to tell them about her hobbies. They were surprised to learn Mom’s only real hobbies were teaching God’s word and praying for people.

Betty is survived by her daughter Donna Safley (Tom), daughter Judy Sanchez, and son Brian McDermott. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Rachel Henke, Erin Clayton, Jennifer Buitrago, Brandon Safley, Jessica Vega, Michael Detrinidad, Daniel McDermott, and Spencer McDermott. In addition, she was blessed to have 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Robert Moffatt (Joan). Preceding her in death was her husband, Eldon Siles, who went on ahead to build her mansion.

Jack Sidman Smith, Jr., retired physicist, passed away on October 5, 2017 in Saratoga, California. He was 77 years old. Jack was born on March 7, 1940 in Johnson City, New York. He obtained a B.S. in Physics from Clarkson College in Potsdam, New York and a M.S. from Syracuse University, Syracuse New York. He worked as a solid state physicist at Rome Air Development Center for 13 years before joining Lockheed Martin in Palo Alto, CA where he investigated problems in reliability physics for 25 years.

He was a tournament champion chess player, loved music (especially opera), enjoyed outdoor activities, and traveled extensively. He expressed his creativity through home renovation and landscape design: His home and back garden are works of art. He was particularly attentive to his many grandchildren, whom he encouraged to a life of the mind and also to enjoy his remarkable sense of humor.

He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 33 years, Margaret O. Smith; his children and stepchildren, Susan, Jack, Sydney, Lee, Glen, Helen and Martin; 20 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; his sister and brother; and numerous extended family and friends.

John Martin McGarry, a long-time resident of San Jose, passed away September 6 in San Diego, CA. He received a military burial and was interred at Miramar National Cemetery September 25, 2017

Jack was born to Martin and Ethel McGarry in Paterson, NJ where he graduated from St. Bonaventure's High School. He attended the New Jersey Institute of Technology where he earned his Bachelor's degree. After college, he served in the US Air Force achieving the rank of Captain. He later obtained Master's degrees from both Cal State Northridge and USC.

Jack married his high school sweetheart Mary Joyce in 1954. They made CA their home while raising their seven children. He had a long and distinguished career in aerospace engineering and even received a patent for a rocket fuel injection system. Jack was known for his intelligence, wit, and was an avid learner who loved historical non-fiction. He could often be found playing bridge, attending football games, or attending the San Jose Opera, where he proudly introduced many of his grandchildren to his love of opera and the arts. He had excellent taste in ice cream.

Jack was preceded in death by loving wife Mary and his brother Charles. He is survived by his beloved children, Kevin (MaryAnn), Maureen Hausauer (Jim), Sean, Colleen Dickerson (Richard-deceased), Brian (Rosemary), Bridgit (John Amarillas), and Eily Hamilton (Dave); and 16 adored grandchildren. Jack's intelligence, wisdom, and generous spirit will be missed by all.

A Memorial Mass and life celebration will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 3 at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 2350 Winchester Blvd, Campbell. A small reception will follow the service.

Born in Roswell, NM, he was proud of his Apache Indian heritage, loved the Lord, his family, classic movies, dancing the jitterbug, New Mexico chili and the SJ Sharks!

Bill mentored his children in education, hunting, fishing and home repair and was a Scout leader and baseball coach.

Introduced to the electrical trade by his father, Bill became a top notch electrician. After 36 years, he retired as a journeyman. Though frequently asked to be foreman, Bill preferred to just do the work he loved and be "one of the guys." He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 64 years.

A devoted member of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod in Cupertino and Las Cruces, NM, Bill volunteered his time and expertise for countless projects including helping to build the church school in Cupertino.

For many years Bill passionately and proudly led the Lutheran Braille Workers to distribute large print bibles in braille and Christian literature for those with visual disabilities. He sorely missed this work as his health declined.

Countless games of Mexican Train dominoes have been played and new sets purchased because Bill introduced it to his adult children. Whether it was 11 AM or PM, when they needed direction re: "the way dad taught us", Bill never hesitated with the answer.

Pre-deceased by his parents, his 4 siblings and his first born son, Billy Cantu; Bill will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Linda; his children, Cindy Ross (Jim), Donald Cantu (Susie), Cathy Vieira (Tony); his stepchildren; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 15 at 11 AM at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 5825 Bollinger Rd, Cupertino.

Toshiko, 85, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed peacefully on Jul 31. Toshiko most recently served as a church organist and choir member at Mount Olive Ministries for almost 38 years.

Toshiko was married to Jerry Knaack for 59 years before his passing in Aug, 2015. She is survived by her sons, Eddie (Kim) and Paul and grandsons Jerry, Andrew and Brent.

Fereydoun Shehabi passed away on July 26 in San Jose. He was born on November 26, 1949 and he came to the US in the 1970's. He worked as a civil engineer for Redwood City for many years where he helped rejuvenate the downtown area to the beauty it is today.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maryam; children, Shane and Lily (Robert); stepchildren, Jason and Hirsa; sisters, Farshid (Saeed) and Dokhie (Carmen); brother, Farrokh (Linda); nieces, Raeeka and Roya (Hossein); nephews, Soroush (Nancy), Arman (Stephanie), and Abdi (Nazli); and many other relatives and friends.

He was the best father and the most loving and caring person. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A service will be held on Saturday, July 29 at 2 pm at Los Gatos Memorial Park, 2255 Los Gatos-Almaden Rd, San Jose.

David Langlais, a witty conversationalist and generous host who gathered flocks of devoted friends to his Cupertino home, and raised a loving family of children and grandchildren, died suddenly on July 25 in Mountain View. He was 59.

Besides building a welcoming home for his family and friends, Dave was a tech executive who, along with his wife, made a career of bringing transformational technologies to people and companies around the world.

Born in New Jersey and later raised in the Philadelphia suburb of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, he came to the Bay Area as a teenager. He earned a degree in Computer Science from San Francisco State University in 1982. An athlete and sports lover, he was the starting setter on the De Anza Community College Men's Volleyball team in 1979.

A sports related injury and chance encounter at De Anza changed the course of his early life, introducing him to his wife of 36 years, Terry Langlais. Nursing a broken ankle beneath his desk on the first day of English Lit class, he gingerly shifted his injured leg out from under his desk, directly into the path of his striding wife-to-be. She stumbled over the cast and fell into a romance that brought marriage in 1982, followed by two children: son John Langlais in 1991, and daughter Kathleen Langlais in 1996.

Energetic and sociable, the couple hosted weekly gatherings at their Cupertino home, bringing together friends from high school, college, and the software companies where they worked. Gregarious and funny, he mixed drinks and banter, the amiable and mischievous life of the party. In conversation, he drew often from his twin interests in history and television, recounting Chernow's lessons on John Adams as readily as Sheldon's antics on Big Bang Theory.

The couple's tri-level in the foothills became a frequent gathering place for their ever-expanding social circles. Dave exuded a warmth and welcome that formed a place of comfort for family and friends. He extended his care to nieces and nephews that he regarded like children, especially his nephew Ryan Tuggle. In a tradition that grew more elaborate every year, he put Christmas decorations on the roof, reindeer hoisted into the sky, beacons of light for those he loved.

With his children, Dave built community around their schools and endeavors. In his wallet he carried pictures of sporting events and school dances. In one, he and his son smile broadly at the camera, enjoying their season tickets to the SF Giants. In another, he and his daughter double over in laughter while dancing The Robot to a regal waltz at a gala ball. He cherished most the evenings together, the simple pleasure of watching the Warriors or a Harry Potter marathon. His family cherishes these memories of laughter shared, quiet but clever punchlines, and nights spent glued to a ball game.

Dave often said his dream job was to be chief street sweeper at Disneyland. He visited many many times but was distracted by the rides, and so found another path. He worked in technology, bringing early networking protocols to organizations around the world, ushering in the internet age. As he progressed through his career, managing teams and elaborate IT operations across the world, he balanced his growing responsibilities with excursions of fun, keeping promises to colleagues, family, and friends alike. He nimbly pivoted between strategic project investment planning and the waters of Avalon Harbor, between cloud and automation conferences and the fairways at Sun River, Oregon.

Along with his wife and children, he is survived by his parents Donald and Lorraine Langlais, brother Ron Langlais, sister Lisa Karleskind, and mother-in-law Lucille Halloran. He is also survived by grandchildren Mae and Lucille Tuggle.

Dave was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandfather, and cherished friend to many. His jovial spirit flowed from a generous soul, deeply committed to his family and the many friends he welcomed into his home, always there for those in need.

Funeral services will be held August 4, 2017 at Church of the Resurrection, 725 Cascade Drive, Sunnyvale, CA. The praying of the Rosary will be held at 11AM with Mass following at 12PM. In honor of Dave's casual style, Tommy Bahama's attire preferred.

Martha Elizabeth Schulenburg (Ernestine Neilson Smith) passed peacefully away, July 20, 2017 in Los Gatos.

Born in Palo Alto on February 2, 1937 to Wilhelmina Carol and Lester H Smith. She was affectionately known as Polly to her family. She graduated Palo Alto High School in 1955. On August 30th, 1957, she married the love of her life, Fredrick Schulenburg. She worked for Macy's and the Emporium until 1973, when she retired to become a stay at home mom. They moved to San Jose in 1964 and together raised their 5 children. She was a loving and dedicated mother, who supported her children in all their activities. She served on the Advisory Board of San Jose Rainbow Assembly #5, IORG for both her daughters, the DeMolay Parents Club, and supported her sons in their Scouting and Eagle Scout projects. She was always there to talk to, laugh with, or just give them her support.

In later years, she traveled the world with her husband Fred. They loved to cruise and together sailed around the world (except a small part of the Asian coastline), stopping and exploring along the way. When not traveling, she loved being a grandma, and was blessed with 7 grandchildren to love.

Martha is survived by her husband, Fredrick Schulenburg; her children, Fredrick A Schulenburg (Dianne), Carroll E Endicott (Lindsay), Thomas W Schulenburg (Eireanne), Cynthia L Schulenburg, Robert J Schulenburg (Maribel); her grandchildren, Philip Pangrac, Joseph Pangrac, Alexander James (Roxanne), Sarah Katherine Endicott, Millie Schulenburg, Ryan Schulenburg, and Bridget Schulenburg; her sister, Wilhelmina Smith; and brother, James Smith (Karen); her many nieces and nephews and cousins.

The family would like to extend its appreciation for the love, care and support given to Martha over the course of her illness. A special thank you goes to our wonderful neighbor and friend, Enis Masseti, Dr Marsha Armstrong, the nurses and aides at Satellite Dialysis Center, and the nurses and staff of El Camino-Los Gatos Hospital.

Martha will be interred at a private service, surrounded by immediate family members. A memorial service will be held at Westgate Community Church (Saratoga campus) on July 26, 2017 at 1pm. All her many friends are invited to come and celebrate her life. Martha is now at peace. She now has a new body, free of disease or pain, living with our Lord in heaven. Eleanor Bosheff Dimmick passed away at the age of 87 on July 16, 2017 in Los Altos, California. She was born in Niles, Ohio on March 26, 1930, the youngest and fifth child of Helen and Peter Bosheff, immigrants of Eastern Europe. Growing up in a rural area, as a first generation American, Ellie was a drum majorette for Niles McKinley High School featured in parades and the local Niles newspaper. After graduating from high school, she worked for the telephone company.

An adventurous woman, Ellie arranged a road trip with her brother Steve, and drove from Ohio to Illinois to visit older brother John, a Navy veteran studying electronics, and wife Bernice. Ellie returned to Ohio, but when John and Bernice moved to California, Ellie's pioneer spirit kicked in and moved to California in 1950, and worked as a telephone operator in Inglewood. A co-worker, Lorraine invited her to dinner at the home of her mother, Ellen and husband Pappy, and introduced Ellie to her brother, Ed Dimmick.

They started dating, and while Ed served in the Navy, Ellie became an American Airlines stewardess. They were married in 1954 in Las Vegas. Ellie resigned from her job because at that time company policy stated stewardesses couldn't be married. Ed and Ellie lived in Glendale and Ed worked for McDonnell Douglas, and Ellie gave birth to their daughter, Linda in 1955, and son, John in 1957. In 1959, upon accepting a job at Lockheed, Ed and Ellie moved to Northern California. They visited the Pioneer Village home development, selected a home style, and their home was built in San Jose, while they rented a home in Cupertino. After moving into their new home, the family grew with the birth of their son, Tom in 1960, and daughter, Jennifer in 1962, both at O'Connor Hospital where Ellie was a dedicated volunteer.

Eleanor worked at Fairchild as a quality control inspector, and encouraged her children to be involved in sports, Girl Scouts, and to have pets: rabbits, dogs, cats, a turtle and a parakeet. She made the best apricot jam, and was an expert seamstress and loved to knit. Ellie visited Ohio for her 20th high school reunion and her niece Carol was 12 sharing that her family went to the Niles/McKinley airport when she arrived. "Eleanor got off the plane, wearing a stunning yellow dress, her hair coal black and beautiful complexion — she was as funny as she was beautiful." Visiting Florida, she attended her niece Ginny's wedding, and had a reunion with her sister Mary, and reminisced about Ohio.

Ellie always had a collection of word search books and pen close at hand. Watching baseball was a favorite pass time whether it was her great grandsons playing or the SF Giants or Oakland A's. The San Jose Sharks lost a true devoted fan as she never missed a game on television, and did enjoy seeing them at the Shark Tank. Across from the Shark Tank is a park with her name engraved on a brick showing her support of the team.

Grateful for knowing Eleanor/Aunt Ellie, family and friends has shared thoughts and stories upon learning of her passing. Common themes are of a sense of humor and a good laugh, and the importance of family and enjoying the tribe of kids in her home, and shared:

Rachel Rutherford: "When I first met Ellie, I was in my mid-20s and had just started dating her oldest son, John. I was nervous to meet her, and did not know what to expect. But she was natural, warm, and treated me as comfortably as if I had already been to her house many times. Over the years, I came to realize that this was part of her nature -- if you were involved with her family, you were family too. When 1 looked at her, the main impression I got was of a cheerful hidden hellion -- a woman with sparkle, spunkiness, courage, appetite, boldness -- who wanted a lot of kids and got them; who wanted a strong family and got one; wanted to be around for all the grandkids and was -- and who transmitted to her children and grandchildren those same characteristics of courage, boldness, love, warmth, and play. Ellie showed up, and was rock solid."

Family members and friends will gather together to remember Eleanor Bosheff Dimmick on Saturday, August 5th, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Alameda Family Chapel located at 12341 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road, Saratoga, California 95070. A celebration of her life to share favorite memories and experiences will follow at her home.

William Robert Kelly passed away on June 30 at the age of 87. He was born in Akron, Ohio, the eighth of nine children, to Charles and Leonia Kelly.

Bill's strong Christian faith, his compassion for people, and his steadfast love of family were formed in his own loving family in the early years of the Great Depression. Bill attended St. Martha's Catholic School, North High School, the University of Notre Dame, and he remained a lifelong champion of "The Fighting Irish" football team. He left the university in his junior year to enlist in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After his military discharge, Bill moved to the Santa Clara Valley, married a local girl, and together they raised a family.

Bill was employed as an engineer and enjoyed a long career in the Valley with jobs at Sylvania, Varian Associates, and General Electric. He started his own TV repair business, Kel-Tek. Later he joined the Santa Clara Valley Water District. Co-workers there became his good friends.

Bill's devotion to family, his sense of humor and love of all things Irish, his compassion, and the stalwart belief in the value of education, stand as his legacy.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joanne; his daughters, Maureen (David Watson), and Sharon (Dean McManis); his sons, Christopher, Bill (Barbara), Don, and Paul (Rachel); his grandchildren, Patrick, William, Shannon, Elizabeth, Christopher, and Michael; and many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Bill.

The family extends sincere thanks to Heartland Hospice for their dedicated and generous care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 10 at St. Justin Catholic Church, 2655 Homestead Road, Santa Clara. Interment to follow at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.

Eugenia Deleev passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at her home in Sunnyvale. She was born outside of Kiev, Ukraine, on December 16, 1925.

Jeanie's mission in life was to defeat world hunger one person at a time. Any visitor who stopped by her home was asked if they were hungry and if they had eaten. There were always cookies and tea when anyone came to visit her.

She married Michael Deleev in 1944 and raised 2 sons and a daughter. His passing in 2000 was a sadness to all who knew him. They found spiritual solace attending St. Michael's Ukranian Orthodox Church in San Francisco where they were long standing parishioners.

Jeanie was only 15 years old when she was taken from her family in the Ukraine by German soldiers during WW2 to work in factories, hospitals and officers' homes. After the war she met Michael and had their 2 sons (born in 1945 and 1950) in Germany before finding sponsors who helped them immigrate to America to live in Chicago, IL, in 1951. Their daughter was born the following year in 1952. In 1962 they moved to Mountain View, where they lived until 1964 when they bought their home in Sunnyvale.

Jeanie is survived by her two sons, Walter Deleev and Albert Deleev (Arlene Alipato); her daughter, Elizabeth Deleev Hylander-Priebe (Charles); 10 grandchildren; 3 granddaughters-in-law; 1 grandson-in-law; 11 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was much loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Services will be held on Monday, July 3 with a visitation from 12pm to 1pm and a Service at 1pm at Serbian Cemetery, 1801 Hillside Bvd, Colma.

Vivian Ye was born on August 18, 1957 in Guangzhou, China and passed away on June 28, 2017 in Stanford, California. She was 59 years old.

Doris Mae was born in Los Angeles, the younger of 2 daughters, to Julia Elizabeth (McComb) and Alva Lee Campbell. As a young adult, she lived in Atlanta, New York City and then France, where she married Marcus E. Powers in 1955. After their first child was born, they moved back to New York, where 2 more sons were born, then to Los Angeles, where their last 2 children were born. Doris moved to San Mateo in 1984, and then to Los Gatos in 2004.

Doris enjoyed traveling – Europe, Japan, South Africa, Australia. She also took many trips to various parts of the US. She loved car camping since her dad first took the family when she was a little girl. She continued that tradition with her own children, patronizing the California Redwoods, plus the big National Parks of the west.

Doris loved animals, and sometimes traveled far and wide to see them - an African Safari, Harp Seals in eastern Canada, Polar Bears in northern Canada. She supported international animal funds, the local humane societies, and cat rescue operations. Doris' own cats were among the luckiest in the world and giving them up in her later years was one of the hardest things she ever had to do.

Doris leaves her 5 children and their spouses, plus 8 grandchildren, whom she loved very much. Private services will be held at a later time. Donations in her memory can be made to the animal charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the caregivers at The Terraces of Los Gatos, Nexgen Health Care, and Seasons Hospice.

Tony Bell passed away on June 20, 2017 at the home he loved after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was 88 years old.

Tony was born to a very Catholic family in Shanghai, China in 1929 as the thirteenth of sixteen children. As American citizens, the family was placed first under house arrest after Pearl Harbor and later moved to a family prison camp. Tony and many family members were exchanged for Japanese prisoners in Goa, India and brought to the United States. They first took residence in Detroit with other family members but soon re-settled in San Jose at a house purchased with funds borrowed from the Catholic Church.

As a teenager Tony worked in the San Jose canneries and as a machinist and graduated from San Jose High School. His continued work supported his attendance at Santa Clara University. He later transferred to San Jose State to increase his (along with other siblings') support of his parents who had lost their home and most of their belongings in the war. Tony was an avid soccer player in college, including serving as player-coach.

Tony was drafted to serve in the Korean War, where he earned a purple heart and the bronze star. After returning, Tony worked nights while completing his degree at San Jose State.

While at San Jose State he met the love of his life, Joan Perrin, whom he vowed to follow to wherever her parents might send her. Soon after marriage Tony and Joan purchased the house that they would both live in for the rest of their lives, raising four children and hosting uncountable get-togethers with family and friends.

Tony honed his skills as machinist and welder at Westinghouse and then General Electric’s Nuclear Fuels Research Division where he ran the prototyping facility.

After General Electric closed the facility, Tony finished his career at Lockheed Missiles and Space as a production engineer.

A lifelong motorcycle rider, Tony loved supporting his sons’ go-kart and motocross racing activities, including at times racing himself. He particularly enjoyed using his skills to “find” the best “standard” racing engines.

Tony loved all activities with his family, including goose and pheasant hunting, playing poker, tennis, hosting barbeques, riding motorcycles, and taking pictures.

Tony also particularly enjoyed supporting the exploits and accomplishments of his sons and daughter.

For many years Tony was known for his Studebakers, including a Hawk and several station wagons, most of which had a sliding roof design unique to the brand.

Tony spent much of his free time helping friends and family whenever called, and vacations camping in Yosemite or a free day in Santa Cruz or Carmel.

Tony was preceded in death by his wife Joan, his parents Joe and Nellie, and fourteen of his siblings, Ed, Frank, Paul, Dave, Barney, Joe, Lucille, John, Marie, Nellie, Richard, Chris, Audrey, and Rosmarie. He is survived by his older brother Peter, four children, Pillow (husband Earl), Tab (wife Kari), Peter, and Tim (wife Paulette) and six grandchildren.

Joan Schoegold, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother quietly passed into the arms of the Lord at age 94. She was a devoted wife and mother with great tenacity, humor and determination.

Joan, the third of four children, was born in Brooklyn, New York to Antonio and Rosaria Desio. Her brothers Thomas and Vincent pre-deceased her; she is survived by her younger sister Lillian Ieradi. Joan married Alex Schoengold in 1942 who pre-deceased her in 1998. She is survived by her sons Ronald (Arline) and Alan (Delia), her grandchildren Debra Donovan, Robert (Marlene) and Dawn Recto (Philippe), and her great-grandchildren David, Nora Donovan, Eric and Evan Vinole, Maeve Donovan, Naya Vinole, Myra and Clair, and Alex and Maritza Kreitlow. Her granddaughter Maritza pre-deceased her.

We are grateful for the loving care Joan received as a five-year resident of Cypress Court Assisted Living, Escondido, California, and the end of life care provided by The Elizabeth Hospice, Escondido, California.

Helen Angela Popovich passed away on June 15, 2017 at the age of 91. She was born in Shawnee, KS on September 16, 1925 to William and Madeline Lally. She had 5 siblings; William Lally, Kathleen Mosbauer, Rita Lally, John Lally and Mildred Lally all preceded her in death.

Helen was class president of her Saint Joseph's high school class in Shawnee, KS. In 1943 she attended a US Navy dance in Olathe, KS where she met her husband Stephen Popovich who was training to be a fighter pilot. The couple married on June 14, 1947 and had a long and loving marriage of 70 years. Helen and Stephen spent their 70th anniversary the day before Helen's passing, talking and holding hands and remembering all the fun adventures they had together. It was a perfect day! During their marriage the couple lived in Shawnee KS, Willington DE, Cincinnati OH, Norristown PA, and finally San Jose. Helen was known for her warmth and outgoing personality. She made many friends wherever she lived.

Helen was one of the pioneers in data entry computing. She worked as a keypunch operation manager for GE for 7 years using one of the first operational IBM System 360s. She also worked at Chrysler and TWA in similar management positions.

Helen loved to dance, travel and loved hosting parties. One of her other passions was gardening. She was a former president of the Almaden Garden Club. Helen was instrumental in having trees donated and planted at the Almaden Lake Park when it first opened. She was very proud of her Irish and Kansas roots. She was a devout Roman Catholic. Helen and her family moved to San Jose (Almaden Valley) in 1974 and she was very active at Holy Spirit Church and other community activities.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Stephen; her devoted son, Michael (Andreana); 2 very dear grandsons, Mark (Sarah) and Stephen who she was very proud of and loved so much. Helen is also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Mary Popovich of Lewes, DE; and many wonderful nieces and nephews on the Lally and Popovich sides of the family.

Beatrice Di Duca, exceptional mother, gifted artist, and expert genealogist, died June 5, 2017 in Campbell, CA. Bea’s adventurous spirit led her to California in 1958 with her husband Joseph, and their children, Benedict and Charlotte. There, she supported her husband while he started Di Duca Bros. and had their youngest, Renee.

Born in Grosse Pointe, MI in on April 5, 1928 and raised in her father’s architectural studio, Bea showed exceptional talent on her dad’s drafting board from a young age. She studied fashion design and created paintings that once seen, are always remembered: brilliant monochromatic portraits, fluorescent scenes of Africa and the Caribbean, and whimsical paintings of jungle animals for her grandsons.

Bea, her four sisters, and two brothers grew up on a farm near Marine City, MI during the Depression, and her family moved from state to state in search of work. After Pearl Harbor, the family left Virginia Beach for Michigan where they would be safe.

In her words, “Our experiences broadened our perspectives of life, love, and the pursuit of happiness.” Bea was a talented pianist, and could play anything from classical to pop, in a casual but polished style few musicians could match.

She encouraged her children and grandchildren in everything they did and loved them unconditionally. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Di Duca and son, Benedict Di Duca, of Paradise, daughter Renee Patton and son-in-law Marcel Manzardo of Los Gatos, and grandsons, Thomas Patton of San Francisco, Joseph Patton of Seattle, and Nic Moretz of Tucson.

Gauri Charan Das was born in Cuttack, Orissa, India and passed away on May 25, 2017. One of 12 brothers and sisters, he accomplished a lot since leaving India in the 1960s. He graduated from Ravenshaw College standing first class first and physics honors, receiving an academic gold medal. He was the best graduate of Utkal University with highest marks in BA and BSC exams. He was admitted to the Metallurgy Program at the India Institute of Science and was awarded the Government of India Merit scholarship. After completing the BE degree with distinction he joined the MTech program in physical metallurgy at IIT Kharagpur. He received the Burma Shell scholarship at Imperial College in London for his PhD. He did a post doctoral fellowship at the University of Maryland and then accepted a staff position at MIT.

In 1973 he moved from academics to industry as part of the semiconductor boom, contributing as a scientist at several large companies such as Fairchild, National Semiconductor and LSI Logic. In 1975 he married Chinmayee Das and they built a long and happy life together. They have two daughters whom he worked very hard to make successful. He founded the Oriya Society of the Americas and was also their first president. In their retirement he and his wife enjoyed spending time at their home in San Jose, gardening, as well as traveling especially to the home that they built in India. He is known as a beacon in his community with his uplifting smile and laugh, his generosity, hospitality, great culinary skills and anecdotes. No words can express the void he leaves and how special he is.

Machiko Mulholland, wife of Fred Mulholland, died May 23 at the Mission Skilled Nursing Home. She was born just before WWII In Tokyo, Japan to a Kyoto, Japan family.

In the late 1960s she worked three years for the Japanese Language Department of the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. In 1973, while working for the Tokyo Weekender English language newspaper in Tokyo, she met Fred. They married in Tokyo in 1974. In 1975 his company transferred him back to the USA, and they moved to Saratoga where they have lived for the last 42 years.

Machiko is survived by her husband, Fred. She was interred at Madronia Cemetery on May 26.

Pearl Jean (Hermano) Lira was born Aug. 27, 1942 and passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 10th surrounded by her three children, Marcus, Alejandro and Selina. She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother to Ryan, and Aunt to many here in Sunnyvale and Mountain View where she lived all of her life. Sister of Mary, Francis, Nellie, Jeannie and Frank.

Pearl graduated from Mountain View High School in 1960, married in 1966 to Salvador. Upon retiring from the San Jose Sheriffs Office after thirty years working for the County, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a longtime SF Giants fan, loved mariachi live music, dancing, laughing and gambling! She had a beautiful smile, a generous soul and a loving heart.

Ismael was a free spirit, entrepreneur, and student of life. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.

Robert (Bob) Sears passed away on Friday, May 5th. Bob was born in E. Providence, Rhode Island on December 27, 1947. Although born in Rhode Island, he moved to San Jose at 5 years old and lived the rest of his life in the Santa Clara Valley. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his time at Fort Ord and Fort Hood. After his military service, he attended and graduated from the Philco-Ford Technical Institute and put that education to use working at Hewlett Packard helping to design one of the first HP calculators.

After a decade with HP, Bob ultimately discovered a career that fully used his gifts of leadership, service and wonderful business acumen; the world of real estate. Bob started off part time, within a year he was one of the leading salesmen with Century 21 Lynette Realty. He continued to excel, left HP and soon he and his wife, Linda purchased the company. They transitioned from Century 21 to Prudential California Realty and continued to operate their highly regarded real estate organization for a total of 41 years. In 2015, they retired and sold the company to Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Drysdale Properties, headquartered in Danville, CA.

Bob was beloved by everyone who worked with and for him in the real estate industry. He was a distinct leader and innovator in his field. Many Realtors in the Santa Clara Valley learned their trade under the competent and caring training of Bob. He wasn’t just a boss but became family to many who to this day call him their surrogate father. He was a member of the Optimist Club of San Jose, and also loved his volunteer work helping students with Art and Science projects at his grandson’s school Hacienda Elementary Science Magnet.

Bob will be deeply missed by all. He was a one of a kind man who brought life and energy to any room he walked in to. He was also seen by many as the one to turn to in need or crisis. They knew not only would Bob be a loving and listening ear but he would also be someone who would know what path to take or decision to make as he offered his treasured advice and opinion.

He is survived by his loving wife Linda of 48 years, daughter Jeannie Frangos (Pete), and grandsons Christopher and Nicholas; son Dan Sears (Michelle) and granddaughters, Faith, Star and Skye. Bob is also survived by his mother-in-law Lois Eberhart, father-in-law Lewis Gasper Sr., brother Joe Walters (June), brother Craig Sears (Colleen), sister Debra Girard (Jim), brother-in-law Lewis Gasper Jr. and sister-in-law Loretta Gunner (Frank), and his aunt Doris Sears.

There will be a Trisagion service for Bob on Friday, May 12th at 6:00pm and a Memorial service on Saturday, May 13th at 11:00am at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, located at 1260 Davis Street in San Jose, with interment and final blessing at Oak Hill Memorial Park, located at 300 Curtner Avenue in San Jose.

She was born in Malta to Georgina and Salvador Migneco and immigrated to the United States in 1952. She was an active member of St. Julie Billiart Parish as a Eucharistic Minister, sang and lead music for daily Mass, and was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation. She volunteered at Kaiser Hospital for 18 years, knitting baby blankets, mittens, and booties for newborns.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Schranz and John Vanoni; and her stepson, Joe Vanoni.

Mary is survived by her children, Herman, Arnold, Christine, Charlotte, John, and Erick; stepdaughter, Johanna; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a few great-great-grandchildren. Everyone she met was left with a lasting impression. She had loved and received love from everyone she knew.

Services will be held at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church, 366 St. Julie Drive, San Jose with a Vigil and Rosary on Tuesday, May 2 from 6 to 9 p.m. and a Funeral Mass on Wednesday May 3 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Los Altos.

Dolores Hurtado Aguilar passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones. Dolores was born to Rebecca and Raymond Hurtado in San Jose where she graduated from San Jose High School and lived out the rest of her life. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother.

She will be remembered for her infectious laugh and silly humor. She was known to cut a rug to her favorite James Brown and Motown tunes, and loved playing cards and a good game of Scrabble with family and friends. Those closest to her, simply knew her as "Dee Dee".

She is survived by her husband, Tony; youngest son, Tommy; grandson, Joshua; brothers, Raymond, Zach and Jesse Hurtado. Her son, Tony Jr.; sisters, Cora Madrid and Carmen Lopez; and her mother and father preceded her in death.

Patricia Anne Harrelson passed away on April 17 in San Leandro. She was born on February 10, 1941 to Francis and Louise Kilfoil in San Francisco. She graduated from Castlemont High School in Oakland and got her AA from Chabot College in Hayward.

Her careers included Loss Prevention with Mervyn's for over 10 years, a deputy with the Alameda County Sheriff's Dept for 8 years, and at the Yerba Buena Center for Arts. In her free time she enjoyed traveling, especially Australia and Scotland, and the Mendocino Coast, reading, and observing nature especially birdwatching with hummingbirds being her favorite. She tried her hand at many crafts including painting, sewing, gardening, and cooking. Her love of the ocean and the outdoors can be found in her drawing and paintings.

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Harrelson. She is survived by her daughters, April Harrelson Arlia of San Jose and Michelle Keehner (Craig Lewis) of Castro Valley; her grandchildren, Lauren Keehner, Lindsey Keehner, and Antonio Arlia; and her sister, Debby Laster.

Patricia's love for life and her witty sarcastic sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.

Lolita “Lee” Gallagher, 81, of Glendale, California passed away on April 14, 2017 in San Jose, California.

She was born on Dec 8, 1935 to Henry and Cecelia Laube in St. Louis, Missouri and moved to Harlan, Iowa before high school. She married Gerald Gallagher on June 29, 1957 in Harlan, Iowa after college and together they bravely moved to Los Angeles, California in 1958 to secure teaching jobs, settling in Glendale, California for the remainder of their lives.

The love of Lee’s life was her family. She was a strong, smart and loving Mother to her four children and a devoted wife, who always put their needs first. She created a special home where everyone who visited felt welcomed, cared for, and well fed. Lee was as gracious and generous as they come. She was a great cook and created many happy memories and meals for so many. No one was a stranger in her home. Lee also loved adventure and with her family spent many happy summers camping across the United States. She was keenly dedicated to her German heritage and loved to explore remote cemeteries looking for lost relatives. She viewed the remotest of dirt roads as an exploration opportunity and she instilled that same sense of spirit in her family. After retirement, she and Jerry spent many years traveling all over the US and the world with family and good friends, she especially loved trips to see her grandchildren.

Lee was the planner, resourcer and driver of her family. Be it a birthday event or a rehearsal dinner, she would skillfully organize the entire affair and deliver it with skill and consistency never taking credit for any of it. She truly epitomized the consummate, skillful Mother.

Lee was a true lifelong learner and teacher. Her formal education started at the Iowa Teachers College and culminated with a Master's Degree in Child Development from Pacific Oaks College. She was a dedicated, respected and beloved Kindergarten teacher at Mark Keppel Elementary School in Glendale. She was a champion for her students and their families and made sure that their education included not only the ABC’s but, nature, art and especially music and dancing. Lee also loved collaborating with her fellow teachers and remained close to many of them even after retirement.

Lee was an active parishioner at The Church of the Incarnation for many decades and her Catholic Faith was central to who she was.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, and her "West Coast mother" and dearest friend Marie. She is survived by four children: Timothy (Linda) of Anchorage Alaska; Ellen Robinson (Cindy) of San Jose, California; Carrie Landry (Kevin) of Star, Idaho and Matthew (Eleni) of Sierra Madre, California and grandchildren Michelle, Andrew, Aaron, Audrey, Alexander, George, Molly, Keller, Grant, and Connor,

After a long battle, Cliff Gard succumbed to cancer on April 13, 2017. He had lived in Saratoga and Los Gatos for the previous 43 years.

Clifford was born in Los Angeles to Albertine (Ashworth) and Clifford Gard, Sr., in 1935. He grew up in North Hollywood, CA, where he graduated from North Hollywood High School. He then attended Texas A&M University (class of 1957), graduating with a degree in engineering. After college, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, a source of pride throughout his life. His career in business included notable stints at Texas Instruments and Memorex, ending with his retirement as a principal with Digicom Systems. Aviation was a special avocation of Cliff's. He piloted his own plane and earned flight instructor credentials.

Cliff lived for his family: Ina, his wife of 59 years, and their three sons and daughters-in-law (Randy/Kuulei Lara; Ross/Julie; and Ron/Elizabeth). Late in life he was blessed with two granddaughters, Allison and Sidne, who became the brightest part of his days. Cliff is also survived by his sister, Sandra Jane Kline, and two step-sisters, Sandra Sims and Pamela O'Keefe, as well as extended family he loved and cherished.

A celebration of Cliff's life is planned for sometime this summer. His family would like to thank Dr. Richard Adrouny and the staff of Cedar Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the 5th floor of Good Samaritan Hospital for the loving care they provided him in his last days.

Cynthia "Cyndy" entered Heaven on April 12, 2017. She was born Cynthia Marie Wilson in San Francisco, CA at the Letterman General Hospital in the Presidio on a Thursday evening at 8:16 PM. Even at birth she was a rare individual, a fourth generation San Franciscan. Her family moved to San Jose in 1976. Cyndy graduated from Oak Grove High School and San Jose State University. She received a Teaching Credential from Mills College and a Masters Degree from San Jose State University. Cyndy chose to teach in the Special Education Field. Cyndy brought more than her education to her students. Cyndy brought a caring, loving, and deep affection for each and every one of her students.

Cyndy married Zack Nelson on September 13, 2003, They bought a house and made a home out of it by filling it with two handsome boys, Samuel (age 10) and Caelan (age 5). She will be deeply missed by her parents William (Bill) and Diane Wilson.

Cyndy loved and was deeply loved, by her family, friends, and students. The universe is just a little darker without her light shining on us.

Roy L. Reynaga Sr., A veteran of The Korean War having served in the 8th US Army. Born on January 14, 1931 in the historic mining town of Jerome, AZ. Died in San Jose at the age of 86.

Roy leaves behind his adorable wife, Hien Nguyen Reynaga; 5 children; 2 brothers; 6 sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

After a 20-year effort, Roy finally completed his education, and graduated from San Jose City College in 1987. Roy bids farewell to all his family, his friends, and all others he knew. He hopes to see all of you in Heaven someday - "Providing I go to Heaven myself".

He left an indelible mark on everyone he came in contact with because of his friendly and engaging personality. He made every person feel warm and welcome.

Jack was born in Santa Monica and graduated from Washington High in Los Angeles. Jack started his career in sales at JC Penny's in management until 1980 when he relocated to San Jose with his family. He then worked at Intercraft Framing and retired in 2007. Jack and his wife relocated to Sparks, NV in 2012.

Jack was a simple man who enjoyed being a softball coach for Campbell Bobby Sox, classic cars (owning a 1971 442), and going to the casino to play blackjack.

Jack is survived by his wife, Jo; children, Jennifer and Kevin; his granddaughters, Lea and Makela; his sister, Joyce Greif; and his loving dog, Oliver.

Irene Gomez Ochoa passed away peacefully on March 19, 2017, in San Jose with her children by her side. Born to Fernando Gomez and Lupe S. Pope, she grew up in Campbell.

Irene is survived by her children, Lisa, Jaci, Roberta, Robert, Ricardo, Reynaldo, and David; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was always admired for her natural beauty, being a great cook, and her prolific green thumb. Some will remember her for her quest for knowledge and learning. Irene will be greatly missed.

After emigrating from Italy in 1953, Tony co-owned the restaurant, Roma Pizza in Alum Rock, and then opened Tony's Italian Restaurant in Mountain View. His house was always filled with his children and grandchildren who continue to adore their father and Nonno.

He is survived by his wife, Rita; children, Carla, Sue, and Ralph; 8 grandchildren; and his sister, Susan.

Janet Strain passed away on March 18 in Santa Clara. She was born on November 3, 1938 in Waukegan, IL and was raised in Urbana and Peoria, IL. She graduated from Peoria Woodruff High School in 1956.

Janet trained as a nurse at Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago and qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1959. In 1961 she received her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from the University of Illinois, where she met Bob, whom she married that same year. After living in Colorado, Illinois, England, New Jersey, and Florida, they moved to San Jose in 1980. She worked as a nurse for more than 35 years in 4 states and England, including Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose from 1980 until she retired in 1995. Janet was an avid bridge player and a longtime member of the Almaden Valley Welcome Wagon. She also loved to travel internationally.

Janet is survived by her husband, Robert Strain; her children, Douglas Strain (Cheryl), Margaret O'Brien-Strain (Eamonn), and Ellen Strain-Seymour (Ian); and her grandchildren, William Strain, Megan Strain, and Cy Strain-Seymour.

She also worked as a dental technician and telephone operator before marrying Richard Garcia Sr. of Salinas, California, who preceded her in death. She loved music and sports and was the San Francisco Giants' biggest fan.

Our beloved wife, mother, Nana, sister, and friend passed away peacefully at home, lovingly surrounded by her family on January 31, 2017.

Olivia was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, graduated from high school in Salem, Oregon, and moved to Santa Clara in 1962. Olivia's life was full of adventure and family. She was an avid world traveler, accompanying her husband on many of his business trips. She was a constant presence at her children's schools, always volunteering in some capacity. She returned to work once her children were older – first as an interior designer, then the manager of the family's Mexican restaurant, and finally as a real estate agent.

She was devout in her Catholic faith and loved being active in her Tuesday morning prayer group for almost 30 years. She thrived at helping others and giving selflessly of her time. Her greatest happiness was spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She could always be found at school or sporting events, cheering from the sidelines, or just spending time together. She bravely battled pancreatic cancer for over a year and a half. Her strength was incredible during the last part of her journey on earth, and in the end, she did as she always told others – she left it in God's hands.

To know Olivia was to love her for her devotion to God, family and friends and for her kind heart and gentle nature. She will remain a living presence much more than a memory to all those whose lives she touched. Whether you met her once or had the privilege of knowing her for a long time, she made an impression on your heart.

She is survived by her husband of 49 ½ years, Robert Gray; daughters, Lisa Fuqua (Peter), Tanya Reinhardt (Erich); and son, Roger Gray; her sister, Bea Hernandez; her brother, Mike Martinez (Marlett); half sisters, Norma Boltz (David), Sonia Coker (Richard); and half brother, Roy Martinez (Sonia); and most especially by the lights of her life – her 9 grandchildren: Olivia, Julia, Maria, Ella, Joseph and James Fuqua, Jakob and Xavier Reinhardt, and Maggie Gray; also by numerous nieces and nephews.

Sui Yu Lee, 77, passed away peacefully at his home in San Jose, CA on January 30th, 2017. Sui was born in China on March 25th, 1939, the son of Yuet and Loy Lee and the eldest of 5 children.

He leaves his wife of 40 years, Kitty Lee; his daughter, Anna Grajek; his son, Alan Lee; and his grandson, Ethan Lee. He will be reunited with his eldest son, Paul Lee.

Born in China and raised in Hong Kong, he traveled and lived in various countries, until he immigrated and settled in the United States in 1968. In 1979, he and his wife started a business named China Field, a Chinese Restaurant in Inkster, Michigan, which they ran together for 16 years. To free up time and assist with his eldest son’s college education, they sold their business, where he then became a chef at local restaurants.

In 2014, he and his family moved to San Jose, CA to be closer to his extended family and his son, who moved to California in 2008.

Mr. Lee was a soft-spoken and extremely kind-hearted man. Although money was tight, he worked tirelessly and devoted much of his life to raising three children and enabled them to attend college. When he found spare time, he enjoyed photography, reading about stocks, and followed Detroit sports.

A funeral service will be held at the Alameda Family Funeral of Saratoga on Friday February 10th from 10am to 1pm. Burial will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland at 2:30pm. James Mark Gate passed away peacefully on January 24, 2017 with his children by his side. Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, James was an alumnus of West Philadelphia High School '47, Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy '53 and Drexel University. Originally, an active duty member of the U.S. Navy, James continued his service in the Navy Reserve, retiring as a lieutenant.

A mechanical engineer at Westinghouse, James married Evelyn Gim in 1956 and started a family in Philadelphia. Later, they would be among the Westinghouse families that transferred to the Sunnyvale plant, marine division, now known as Northrup Grumman.

Settling in Saratoga in 1964, James and Evelyn raised 3 children: Mike, Jamie, and Carolynne. James promoted his love of sports: hiking, skiing, tennis, golf, and sailing, by taking his family on many adventures. Later, he became a koi and orchid enthusiast, as well as an experienced fruit tree grower. His large koi pond was featured on the Santa Clara County Koi Club pond tour.

James is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Michael (Karen Boyko), Jamison Mark (Renee), Carolynne (Tommy Yen); and 7 grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 25th at 1pm at Menlo Church, 20455 Herriman Avenue, Saratoga 95070.

David Becerra was born on September 14, 1933 to Raymond and Guadalupe Becerra in Selma, CA. He was the oldest of 9 children. He was a crew chief for the 309th squadron in the United States Air Force.

David "Champ" Becerra leaves behind his former wife, Jane; his sons, Steve (Rita), and David Arthur (Morgan); his daughter, Elena Garald (Ron); his grandchildren, Nicholas (Courtney), Rachel, Delanie, Maegan, Kendall, Devin, and Kailie.

David emphasized hard work, education, and above all love for his family. He was a kind, generous, and soft spoken man who earned respect from everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

A Rosary will be held at 12:30 P.M. with a Mass to follow at 1 P.M. on Monday, January 23 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1200 Redmond Ave, San Jose. Burial will follow at Los Gatos Memorial Park.

Rob passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on January 7, 2017. He was preceded in death by both his parents, Barbara and Jud and both of his brothers Jud and Tom. He is survived by his two wonderful sons, Tommy and Jamie; his sisters; Sharon, Barbara and Ann; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A true native Californian, he was born in Sacramento, grew up in Atherton, attended both Bellarmine and Woodside High Schools, graduated with a BS in Business Admin from Menlo College and earned a Masters in Finance from Golden Gate University.

He spent more than thirty years in the technology field, starting his career at Memorex and ending it at Semifore as COO.

Rob was also a gifted musician, proficient in playing guitar, drums and keyboard as well as providing vocals. He excelled as a sound engineer and was an integral part of many bands over the years.

Rob will be remembered for the love he had for his sons, his family and many dear friends and for the tremendous perseverance, courage, kindness and humor he showed to all. He was truly loved and will be sorely missed.

Delano Schroeder died peacefully in San Jose at the age of 84. He was born in Hooker, OK on October 8, 1932 to H.W. and Sarah Schroeder. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with both a Bachelor's and Master's in Business/Accounting. He was an auditor with the Defense Contract Audit Agency and served on the California CPA Qualifications Board. He was a member of the Lincoln Glen Church and had served as a deacon and trustee.

Delano is survived by his wife, Frances; children, Colleen Friesen (Kelly) and Daniel Schroeder (Karen); grandchildren, Erin Friesen, Briana Friesen, and Sam Schroeder; brother, Allen Schroeder (Ruthanne), his sister, Lavina Wohlgemuth (Carl); and brother-in-law, Charles Smith.

He will be interred with Military Honors at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 14 at the Lincoln Glen Church, 2700 Booksin Ave, San Jose.
