Joel Daniel Kazarian went to be with the Lord on Christmas Eve in San Jose, 14 months after he was diagnosed with cancer.

Joel was born in Hawthorne, California and was raised in Palos Verdes. He attended UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz, graduating with a double major in Physics and Economics. He lived in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties, working in a variety of jobs including radar tube engineer, owner of a photography business, stereo salesman, and manager of a wheelchair business.

He had many interests including astronomy, sailing, airplanes, space, wine, and motorcycles. Later in life Joel became passionate about ministry and served in recovery and outreach to single men.

He is survived by his father, two brothers and two sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Abundant Life Christian Fellowship in Mountain View at noon on February 7.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where Joel received exceptional care during his illness.

John Ogden was born in Oakland, California and lived in Lafayette until the age of 5, when his family moved to La Habra. He grew up in Orange county, attending La Habra High School and playing on their basketball team. He had a lifelong love of basketball, growing up with the great UCLA and Laker teams of the late 60's and early 70's.

His family moved to Walnut Creek for his senior year where he finished his basketball career and graduated from Monte Vista High School.

He attended college at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, earning a B.S. in Computer Science.

After college, he worked at Western Electric, a subsidiary of AT∓T which subsequently became Lucent Technologies. During this time he attained a M.S. in Computer Science from New Mexico State University in Las Cruses.

He worked for IBM for several years as a project manager, then worked as a contractor for various companies including Avaya, SBC Communications, Kaiser Permanente, and Cisco. He was a certified project manager and a member of PMI (Project Management Institute)

In addition to his family and friends, John was passionate about golf, tennis and basketball. In later years he embraced lawn bowls and and was active in several lawn bowling organizations. He played in several U.S. Open of Lawn Bowls tournaments and qualified to play in the 2011 U.S. National Lawn Bowling Championships in Seattle.

He maintained close friendships from all the various stages of his life and his quirky sense of humor and unfailing positive attitude will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Fowler; his parents Woody and Mary (Lewis) Ogden, brother Richard (Kathryn) and sisters Terri Hall (Mike) and Lauri Ogden. He is further survived by nieces and nephew, Jennifer, Elysa, Jacquelyn, and Graham.

John will be interred at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland in a private family ceremony. Plans for a remembrance event are in progress.

Beverly Rita Gallant, wife, mother, friend, community volunteer, accomplished traveler and sweets aficionado ascended into heaven on Thursday, December 5th.

Beverly was the only child of James and Lillian Healy born in Brooklyn, New York. She started her lifelong love of reading as a child and spent countless hours traveling to and from the New York Public Library via the subway all by herself. Her thirst for knowledge never ended. She earned her first Degree in Chemistry from New York State Tech. She was a gifted conversationalist and always had interesting commentary to share with her family, friends and Ascension Church book club.

She met the love of her life, Mark A. Gallant, through a friend who happened to be dating Mark's best friend Joe. They were married on August 12, 1950 at Holy Innocent Church in New York and honeymooned in Niagara Falls. Both growing up without siblings, Mark and Beverly were determined to have enough children for a family baseball team. They succeeded. Beverly was a devoted mother of 8 to Gregory, Raymond, Douglas, Jeffrey (deceased), Jeannette, Victor, Lillian and Vivian. She was a very proud grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed many soccer, baseball, hockey and dance recitals. In search of a better place to raise a family, Mark and Beverly packed up their 3 young boys and moved west to California. Mark preceded her in death, 23 years ago, on February 15, 1990 after 39 years of marriage.

Beverly was a devout Catholic, a very active parishioner at the Church of the Ascension in Saratoga and a member of the parish since its inception in the Barn, 50 years ago. She used to open the Church for the 6:30am Mass, was a Eucharistic minister for the 5pm Mass for over 25 years and also brought the Eucharist to the homebound at the West Valley Convalescent Home now known as Amberwood. Beverly loved to learn and was an inspiration to all she met. While raising her children, she attended San Jose State University, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Health Science with Distinction as well as a Masters Degree in Health Science. She worked for Nabisco in Process Control in New York, Westinghouse Testing Services in Sunnyvale for 4 years and ESL/TRW in Sunnyvale for 13 years in the Health & Safety department. Retirement did not slow Beverly down. She loved to travel, see Broadway shows and spend time with family and friends. She was an enthusiastic volunteer for the Santa Clara Senior Center and got great pleasure from working with the staff and seniors. She also spent many years supporting the Red Cross and taught First Aid & CPR. Beverly was a lifelong artist. She painted, loved creating unique ceramic pieces and crocheting beautiful blankets. We were blessed to have her in our lives and we will forever treasure the time we had with her. Now she is at peace with the Lord, her husband and son. She will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Beverly's name to the Hospice of the Valley who provided exceptional care and support during her last weeks of life or to the charity of your choice.

Services will be held on Wednesday, December 11th, 9:30am Rosary, 10:30am Funeral Mass at the Church of the Ascension on 12033 Miller Avenue in Saratoga. A lunch reception will be held at Church of the Ascension following the burial at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Los Altos.

"Pat" was known by all who crossed her path as a warm, kind, generous, and patient person. She is survived by her son, Dr. Gerard White, who will forever miss her dearly.

Our beloved mother, Blanca Edilsa Talavera, passed away Thanksgiving evening, November 28, 2013 with her family beside her.

Blanca was born on December 15, 1931 in Chiriquí, Panama where she spent her childhood years. She later moved to San Francisco where she married Luis Cesar Talavera. At 34 years old, now living in San Jose, she found herself to be a widow with 5 young children. With her perseverance and positive attitude, she never waivered.

Battling many ailments and given a terminal diagnosis, she accepted it with dignity, which didn't surprise anyone who knew her.

Having never remarried, she will be laid to rest with the love of her life at Golden Gate National Cemetery. She will forever be in our hearts.

Blanca is survived by her daughter, Grace (Manuel); her sons, Ernesto, Rick, Ron, and David; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, December 4 at Church of the Chimes, 1447 Bryan Avenue, San Jose.

Andrew was born on December 17th, 1982 in Charleston, Illinois to Drew and Sue (Snyder) Cooper. He grew up in the small town of Middletown, Indiana.

As a child he managed a paper route for the Indianapolis Star and discovered a 50 year old skeleton in the walls of the 1898 Masonic Temple building where his family lived. He was home schooled throughout high school and he enjoyed math and computer science.

Andy enrolled and graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a bachelor's in Computer Science.

He and his brother, Joey, published an online magazine called Mac Users Militia Newsletter.

Andy worked for Guidant in St. Paul, Minnesota. He moved to West Lafayette, Indiana and worked for Griffin Analytical Technologies (FLIR) until he moved to Carmel, Indiana to work for Technicolor, Inc. After Technicolor, Andy was offered a job at Amazon.com in San Jose, California. Andy was working on a high-priority project for Amazon.com

Andy was very smart, logical and organized. He loved to go on adventures with his family and friends and enjoyed creating off the wall projects at home. He made a solar boiler and a windmill with his wife. He was not conventional and loved efficiency and creativity. He was good at drawing and loved to draw at work. Andy loved to read. He learned to ride the unicycle and juggle. In his free time, he worked on homemade software projects and loved biking with his sons. Andy was very generous and loved to give back to those in need.

He is survived by his wife, Amber Cooper; and his children, Jonah, Gabriel, and Lucy.

A Service will be held on Saturday, December 7 at 4:30pm at Cusimano Colonial Mortuary, 96 W El Camino Real, Mountain View.

He wanted to be remembered with his favorite quote, "My only regret is that I had Boneitis"

A true redwood-country fan resident passed away early Saturday November 2, 2013 comfortably in his Willits home.

Born in 1922 in what was Yugoslavia, he relocated to St. Louis, MO with his parents and twin sister at the early age of 2, unknowingly to pursue the American dream. After serving in the Army during WWII, he eventually settled in Los Angeles and learned to be a mechanic. He later married Aspassia, another European immigrant, and had two children, all of whom survive Joseph. He is also survived by his brother Robert Kreis residing in the North West.

Joseph initially enjoyed the Southern California beach and later grew to prefer the back country, fishing, and of course the redwood forest, which ultimately triggered a move to Willits in 1999 to successfully complete his long-term redwoods dream. He simultaneously learned the use of a computer and enjoyed 'surfing' while in the redwoods.

Many thanks go to the good people of the Frank Howard Hospital, the Veterans Administration, Northwood, Hospice, Sequoia Services, and private help. They expertly supported family and friends through a difficult time.

He will be sorrowfully missed by the loving friends he and his wife made in Willits and certainly his immediate family.

Goldie Virginia (Ritchie) Stafford, formerly of Harrisonburg, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2013 in San Jose, California at the age of 101 years, 8 months, and 15 days. She had been ill with cancer for several months.

Goldie was born on March 18, 1912 in Harrisonburg, Virginia, the second child and oldest daughter of the late Aldine and Maude (McDorman) Ritchie. On February 21, 1939 she married George C. Stafford who drove for Greyhound Bus Lines. They lived in Richmond, Lexington, and resided at 167 Patterson Street, Harrisonburg, VA. She worked and operated the Greyhound Bus Station on North Main Street in Harrisonburg for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, George C. Stafford and five brothers, Julius, Charles, Dewitt, James, and Richard. She is survived by her sister, Janet Lambert of Harrisonburg.

Also surviving are her two children, daughter, Sandra Carter of Brunswick, OH and a son, George C. Stafford, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Kim (Simmons) Stafford of San Jose, CA; five grandchildren, Victoria Carter Poindexter of Charlottesville, VA, Mark Stafford of San Jose, CA, Katina Carter Dimarco of Medina, OH, Erin A. Stafford and Beth Stafford of San Jose, CA; four great-grandsons, Ryan Hill of Richmond, VA, Carter Hill of Charlottesville, VA, Preston and Scott Dimarco of Medina, OH; and many nieces and nephews.

She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and travelling to visit her family. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg.

Viewing will be at the Kyger and Trobaugh Funeral Home on Friday, November 8 and she will be buried at Woodbine Cemetery in Harrisonburg on Saturday, November 9 to rest beside her husband and parents in eternity.

Randall White passed away at his home Friday, October 11 after a long battle with cancer. Randy leaves behind his daughter, Laura White and grandson, Riley McCallister of Campbell; sister Laurie Anton (Basil) of South Lake Tahoe; brother Brad White (Dolores) of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; cousin, Bill Ross of San Jose and numerous nephews, nieces and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Virginia M. White and his father, George R. White of San Jose.

A native of San Jose and graduate of San Jose State University with a BS degree in engineering; Randy retired from Hewlett Packard/Agilent Technologies following a long and successful career. After retiring, he spent many enjoyable hours sailing his boat around San Francisco Bay. He served his country with two tours in Vietnam and will be buried with military honors at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.

A funeral service is scheduled at Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, 96 W El Camino Real, Mountain View on Tuesday October 22, at 9:30am. A Celebration of Life will be held that evening at Randy's family home at 6pm.

(Haas) Gipprich of Brecknock Township; Abby L., wife of Mark S. Hunsberger of Wyomissing; Peter M., husband of Maureen R. (McKeone) Gipprich of Exeter Township; Richard G., husband of Ashley M. (Covach) Gipprich of Spring Township; Amy E. Gipprich of Ephrata, Lancaster County; and Margaret G., wife of John C. Woodward of Wyomissing. Other survivors include Donna Lynn (Neubaurer) Koller, fiancee of the late Dennis C. Gipprich of Spring Township, and two sisters-in-law, Donna L. (Ehric) Gipprich of Stowe and Tacy (Behm) Gipprich of Shillington; 20 nieces and nephews; five great-nephews; and three great-nieces.

Steve was born in Pittsburg, California. He attended St. Mary's College in Moraga, and after his service in the Navy during WWII, he graduated with a pharmacy degree from USC. While working at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles, he met Florence, his lifelong partner. They married on January 26, 1951. The young family soon moved to the San Jose area and have been residents of Campbell for over 40 years. Steve was the successful owner of Steve's Prescription Pharmacy, located on Campbell Avenue. Started in 1959 he had a dedicated clientele who relied on him for his professional service as well as home delivery. After retiring, he and Florence traveled extensively in their RV as well as on family cruises. Steve's passion to serve the community evolved into a 19 year volunteer position as a health insurance counselor for the Council on Aging (HICAP). Steve was one of the 2013 winners of the crystal bowl for his long term community service. He will also be fondly remembered by his family and friends for sweeping the football pool the last week of his life.

Steve is preceded in death by his son, Gregory. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Florence; his children, Linda, Marty (Roxanne Carusa) and Barbara (Patrick Mullen); his 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Lucy's Church, Campbell, on September 25, 2013 at 11:00am. Lunch reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Steve's memory to Hospice of the Valley.

Patti Lee McIntosh passed away unexpectedly at her home on September 13th at the age of 52. She was born in New London, Connecticut to parents Robert Alan Park and Marian Jane Johnson. Patti is survived by her fiancé, Richard Johnson. She played an important role in the lives of her daughter Denina Thompson, her son Robert McIntosh and her grandson Cole Parker Thompson. She is also survived by her sister Katherine LaFavor (Greg), brother Samuel Park (Michele) and sister Perri Park. She will be missed by her nephews/niece: Casey (Danielle), Troy, Jason (Melissa) and Heather and great nephews/great nieces: Richard, Connor, Kenny, Rylee and Aubree. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Alan Park. Having lived in many states, she spent the last 39 years in San Jose and attended Pioneer High School, and graduated in 2011 from the University of Phoenix. She was a kind, loving and amazing person with great wit and wisdom.

Patti worked at Orchard Supply Hardware for 29 years as a senior buyer and received numerous awards not only for herself but for her buying team. She loved being a buyer of lawn and garden supplies and that she added purple garden hoses to the store's inventory. The last four years she has worked at The Cilian Group as the Office Manager. Family members sometimes referred to her as "The Tool Lady".

Patti spent 25 years off and on as a volunteer at the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley. She loved all kinds of animals and would often say, "Do you know..." and reference some fact about some animal. Her love of creatures, both two-legged and four-legged will be missed. Besides family, work, and animals she also enjoyed riding motorcycles with Richard, playing pool and most importantly she loved spending time with her grandson Cole. Patti was a member of Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America.

A service will be held at the Calvary Church, 16330 Los Gatos Blvd, Los Gatos 95032, on Monday, October 7th at Noon. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley, 3027 Penitencia Creek Road, San Jose, CA 95132.

Jon Paul Harward passed away on, July 31, 2013 following a prolonged illness. Jon was an outgoing and vivacious individual who embraced life and enjoyed every aspect of it.

Originally from Blackfoot, Idaho, Jon earned a degree in Political Science at Idaho State University. In 1957 he married Nedra Woods. After serving in the US Army, he attended the University of California, Hastings School of Law, graduating in 1962. Jon practiced law in Campbell, California for 40 years.

Jon had an adventurous spirit and lived a very active life. He loved his family and enjoyed practicing law in the Bay Area. He was a good person who helped many people throughout his life both personally and professionally. He is survived by Nedra Woods, his daughter Elizabeth, his son Robert and his grandson Jacob.

Victor Valdez, 51, lay ecclesial minister and long-time catechetical leader who achieved Master Catechist status last year, died July 17, 2013. He had suffered for many years from the effects of recurring brain tumors.

Wendy Scherbart, Director of Catechetical Ministry for the Diocese of San Jose, said, "Over the 30 years I have known Victor, he has shown me how to put my trust in God. He lived with integrity and hope while carrying recurring health challenges."

"Victor chose to discern the will of God each day. He strived to do the will of God and now is fully united with God. I thank him for inspiring us with his courage and deep faith."

Scherbart said that Victor had just made his second trip to Lourdes in May with the Knights of Malta and that he was seeking peace. "He told me that the day he went to the baths he didn't want to hurry, but to be fully present to the experience."

"As he stepped through the waters, he felt sensations, the temperature, the placement of each foot, and he emerged feeling a deep peace," Scherbart said.

At Valdez's funeral Mass, July 24, at Santa Teresa Church, San Jose, Father Jose Antonio Rubio gave the homily, noting the Gospel reading, John 6: 37-40, "If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it."

Father Rubio said Victor "had recurring benign brain tumors and had 12 surgeries - some 13 hours - until they couldn't operate anymore. He had the tumors for more than half his life, but he did a lot in a life."

"Even as a boy Victor carried his cross. When he was born, an ear was partially developed and he endured a number of surgeries. When he was in grammar school, he was hit by a car, broke his hip and was in a cast for six months."

"Victor had a strong faith," Father Rubio said. "From his Mexican heritage he had great faith in Our Lady of Guadalupe, and he got strength from the writings and spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola. After he was diagnosed with the tumors, he dedicated his life to God, working for the Church. He always paid attention to how God was working in his life."

Valdez worked at St. John Vianney, St. Athanasius, St. Denis (Menlo Park) as Director of Religious Education, at the University of Santa Clara as a resident minister in the dorms and with the alumni association. He planned retreats, gave talks and workshops at faith formation conferences in San Francisco, Santa Clara and Arizona.

Father Rubio said, "Victor carried his cross behind Jesus, but he carried his cross like Jesus. The cross of Jesus changed the universe and lead to resurrection, his resurrection, Victor's resurrection, our resurrection."

"Victor saw life as a pilgrimage. He liked to travel and went to Lourdes twice, to Fatima, and to Madrid for World Youth Day in 2011. He had been looking forward to WYD Brazil this year."

"When he returned from Madrid he wrote an article for The Valley Catholic recalling standing in rain all night and sleeping on cement. He quoted the very text that was tonight's Gospel reading, and he concluded: If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me."

Victor wrote, "I know the call of Jesus calls for total commitment requiring great sacrifice. What we experienced at World Youth Day was an opportunity to trust in the Lord who never abandons us. In an exhibit along a Madrid parkway, we saw life-size reproductions of the Stations of the Cross. It is through the cross that we are led to freedom."

Chris was a long time Bay Area resident, living in Hayward, Newark, Fremont, and San Jose. He was an avid fisherman who loved the outdoors.

Chris loved his family. He is survived by his parents, Charles & Bonita Bowman, his two sisters and their families along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be missed.

Norm passed away on the morning of July 12, after a long battle with pain and a short battle with liver cancer. He will be greatly missed, and will live on in the hearts and minds of his family.

Born Norman Alfred Ossman with his twin sister Norma, on March 15, 1931, to native San Franciscans, Gustav and Celestia Ossman; they were the youngest of six. He graduated Balboa High class of 1949.

On a sunny February day in 1961, he married the love of his life, Georgia Lee Schuster, at St Paul's Church in San Francisco.

Norm worked for Pacific Gas & Electric for 38 years and loved the outdoors, from skiing, fishing and hunting to road trips, camping and traveling. He was a member of the San Francisco Turner's for 25 years as well as the Nature Friends. He measured his success in the friends and family he helped and the laughter from his jokes.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia, of 52 years; his son Erik and daughter Greta; sister-in-law Betty Winkler; brothers-in-law Larry and Gary Magee; eight nieces and nephews; great-uncle of 18, and great-great-uncle of 22.

Memorial services will be arranged later in the season in San Francisco and their new home in Palo Alto for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the charity of one's choice.

Raymond Tsuneo Tasaki passed away on July 6, 2013. Raymond was born in Los Angeles, CA on August 13, 1936. He was the son of Masao and Masako Tasaki and elder brother of Gilbert, James, Kim and Sonny.

With an innate design sensibility, Ray spent most of his working years as a graphic artist and instructor. He served as a well known and respected community organizer in San Francisco and East San Jose. He was a dedicated activist and leader in social justice movements.

Ray's greatest joy was spending time with his friends and extended family. The Tasaki clan spent many family reunions over the years in August celebrating Ray's birthday. In his later years, Ray enjoyed photography, watching award winning independent films, learning the newest computer technologies and preparing his favorite Japanese dishes. On weekends, he was a loyal fan of the Giants, Cal Bears and, above all, the S.F. 49ers.

In passing, Ray leaves his children Chuteh Kotake and his wife Yunice, Kiyoshi Kotake, Mara Tasaki, Lauren Tasaki-Senter and her husband Martin Senter; along with his grandchildren Kate, Callie, Kyler, Brayden and baby Nikko.

On May 12, 2013, Jimmy Coy Risdal passed away peacefully at his home in Grass Valley, surrounded by his loving family. Jim left his home in Iowa and traveled to California at the young age of 16 where he met his wife of 47 years, Doris Arnerich Risdal.

He went on to graduate from Campbell High School in 1963 and studied airframe and power plants at San Jose City College. Jim joined the U.S. Air Force in 1966 and, after his four-year enlistment, returned to settle with his family in Los Gatos. He continued his studies and received an associates degree from West Valley College and a bachelors degree from San Jose State University.

His career progressed from working at International Video Co. to becoming Vice President of Sales for RMK Manufacturing. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to creating his own company, CalTek, dealing in electronic components and manufacturing. In 1993, Jim left the fast paced city life to enjoy the peaceful country life in Grass Valley, where he always felt he had found his paradise. Never one to slow down, he then created another new business, Pilgrim Electronics.

Jim was an avid pilot who loved flying his Bonanza airplane and enjoyed many hobbies like hunting, cooking, and gunsmithing. He was a cowboy at heart and was always recognized for his cowboy boots and cowboy hats. He had a special love for horses and riding them with his granddaughter, Julianna. Jim's love and passion was always his family. He took great pleasure in continuing the traditional Sunday Family Dinner and was always the head chef at a table that continued to grow over the years as the size of his family did. He leaves a wonderful legacy of the true meaning and importance of family and is an inspiration to all who knew him.

Jim was also a published author of many poems and articles over the years culminating in his first novel "Dreamin' of Grass Valley" being published after receiving his lung transplant in June of 2008. To all who ever had the good fortune to meet him, he was a man of true grit with incredible knowledge, immense generosity and kindness, and a wonderful sense of humor. He always looked at life with a positive attitude and wore a smile in the toughest of situations.

He will be incredibly missed by his wife, Doris, three sons, Jimmy, Ryan, and Jason, three wonderful daughter-in-laws, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, his sister, Evelyn and her husband, Carl Fink.

Memorial services will be held at St. Patrick's Church in Grass Valley on May 18, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jim Risdal Memorial Fund. Call funeral home for information.

Carol was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota and moved to California in 1951. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family and wonderful caregiver, Doralyn.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bob; two sons, Chris and Doug (Heidi); daughter, Susie; grandchildren, Emily, Wes, and Annika; sisters, Shirley and Sharon; brother, Norman; and several nieces and nephews.

Carol was a flight attendant for United Airlines based in Los Angeles when she met Bob Heeter. They were married in 1955. She was a wonderful artist and enjoyed years of weekly Plein Air painting with the Saratoga Community of Painters. She belonged to the 18-Hole Group at La Rinconada.

She had many friends who enjoyed her company and cherished her friendship. She will be greatly missed.

Mary Wiley was born on May 7, 1943 in Uvalde, Texas and passed away on April 26, 2013 in San Jose, California. She was 69 years old.

Sharon Lee Rogge was born on August 18, 1954 in San Jose, California, to Gerald Zappelli and Norma Beneda. While attending South Hills Community Church, she met the love of her life, Dewey Rogge, and was later married in Tahoe on November 3, 1976. They were married for 36 years.

Sharon was a Dental Assistant for some years, but later became a Kindergarden teacher. This was where she thrived. She loved to encourage and nurture children. When she had children of her own she decided to be a stay at home mom, which was an incredible blessing to her children, Elizabeth and Dewey. When the children were older, Sharon worked as a Teacher Assistant at Achiever Christian School for many years. Later she was a substitute teacher for the Los Gatos Union School District.

Sharon loved people. She loved to serve people. She was the ultimate party planner--from school fundraiser, to Bible study potlucks to the BEST themed birthday parties a child could ever dream of. Sharon loved community. One of the most influential ways she served others was by making baby blankets for mothers-in-need, who were either abused or recovering addicts.

She loved music. She learned to play the guitar and wrote songs with her husband. She would constantly sing to her children and used it as a tool to teach them many things including verses from the Bible. Singing in the choir at Church of the Chimes brought so much joy and happiness to her life. Some of her favoirite music was recorded by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, and of cource her own son, Dewey Jr.

She loved th ocean. It was a place of peace and relaxation for her--a place where she felt colse to the Lord. Enjoying the beauty of the oceans and nearby beaches was one of her favorite past times with her husband and kids. This past year, she had the opportunity to visit most of her favorite beaches, both old and new, with her loving partner and husband, Dewey. She enjoyed looking for sand dollars and moonstones on the beach.

Sharon loved her Creator. She adored so many beautiful things around her that were masterfully designed by His hand. One of those creations was butterflies. On one occasion, a breath taking butterfly landed on her leg, and she pondered not only the amazing colors, but all that had to have happened in order for a caterpillar to be transformed into a butterfly. She knew that this was also true for human beings. Beauty often comes out of much struggle--this she knew well.

Sharon loved to read the Bible. The Word of God was a lamp unto her feet. She memorized it, meditated on it, shared it with others and believed it as the Truth for her life. She loved to talk about the things of the Lord, namely her blessed hope in Jesus Christ, which she knew would culminate in Heaven. Without a doubt, anyone who came in contact with Sharon would instantly come to know her absolute love for Jesus.

Share was a woman of deep faith. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an encouraging friend. She truly left a legacy of God's love to all she met.

Sharon went to be with the Lord on April 17th, 2013. Preceded in death by her father, Gerald Zappelli. Survived by her husband, Dewey Rogge Sr.; children, Elizabeth and Dewey Jr.; mother, Norma Zappelli; siblings, Ronald Zappelli (brother), Laura Hoyt (sister) and Ken Zappelli (brother). Also survived by loving in-lawas, Karlene and Gerry Graham.

The void in our hearts that Sharon leaves behind is filled in the knowwledge that she is in heaven with God enjoying the presence of her beloved Jesus!

He was a veteran of the USAF, retired from Lockheed Martin, and had 20 years of service as a SJ crossing guard. He was a Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed the outdoors, dancing, helping others, and watching his children grow.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Adams; his children Raymond, Sandra, James, Sarah, and Deborah Adams, Linda Bottolfson, Sharon Marrow, Robin Reid, and Donna Cathcart; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters; a brother; and many nieces and nephews.

Mike Guarino died April 11 after a brief illness. He was 5 days from his 91st birthday.

Mike was born in 1922 in NYC to Italian immigrants. A child of the Depression, Mike developed resiliency and a sense of humor that stayed with him throughout his life. He was blessed with great intellect and graduated Stuyvesant HS in NYC at age 16. He served in WWII in the Seabees and learned carpentry. He graduated from Syracuse University with a BS in Engineering and married the love of his life, Frances Ramona Colucci. They lived in New London, CT with their 3 children from 1958 to 1967 where he worked on the Nautilus at Electric Boat in Groton.

The family moved to San Jose in 1967 to begin a new career at GE Nuclear Energy Division. They moved to Los Gatos in 1973 where he and Fran found a beautiful spot to build a home and lived so happily for 40 years. During their 61 years of marriage, Mike and Fran were avid bridge players, dancers, golfers and recent fans of the Warriors. Mike loved to sing and was a talented harmonica player.

Mike will be greatly missed by his devoted wife, Frances; brother, Nick Guarino; children, Cassandra Guarino, Mary Gilles (Mark), Michael Guarino (Beth); grandchildren, Anna Bargagliotti (Joey Johnson), Paul and Francesca Gilles, Adam Guarino; and great grandchildren Siena and Luca Johnson.

Nogah Bethlahmy, a resident of Los Gatos for 54 years and former Town Treasurer, passed away on April 7, 2013.

He grew up in Philadelphia and Israel and served as an officer in the 8th Army Air Corp in England, supporting the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He settled in California, marrying his wife, Rhoda in 1947. He flew for the new State of Israel in the War of Independence, navigating a convoy of planes from Panama to Czechoslovakia and leading the ground school for the first Israeli Air Force class.

The Bethlahmys settled in Los Gatos in 1959. Nogah worked for IBM for 25 years, participating in the dawn of Silicon Valley. He served two terms as Los Gatos Town Treasurer and on the Los Gatos-Saratoga High School and Recreation District Boards.

Nogah was predeceased by his wife, Rhoda and is survived by his two children, Joanne and Dan; and two grandchildren, Anna and Jessica.

A memorial service will be held at the Los Gatos JCC on April 13 at 6:00 pm. Donations can be made to the Jewish National Fund.

Phyllis Dickerson, 59, passed away peacefully with family and friends present on March 18, 2013 in San Jose, California. She was born on March 8, 1954 in Bremerton, Washington.

In June 1972, when Phyllis was 18 years old, she rode the Greyhound bus to San Diego the day after she graduated from high school to stay with her friend, Murph. She loved California and never wanted to go back to where it rained all the time. She maintained her Washington family and gained her California family. She had a huge family and was much loved by her relatives and her friends. She worked for many years at LSI Logic. Most recently she worked for Alameda County. She loved to travel, going on cruises with friends and her niece Charline. Phyllis was pursuing her Masters in Social work while working full time and going through chemo treatments. She walked the breast cancer 3-day walk often. She was beautiful, energetic, brave, caring, hilarious, inspiring, unique, independent and special. She gave strength and love to others. She loved her family and friends. She enjoyed reading, having stacks of books in her house. She did volunteer work for different organizations. She was excited in 2012 because she was able to travel and visit her friends the Prescotts (Dawn, Rob, Jacob and Danielle) in England, her friends Lonnie and Teena in Michigan and her relatives in Washington State and Michigan. She also went to Las Vegas with her Bart Buddy, Jane. She was well loved and will be missed greatly.

She was predeceased by her mother, Adelene Dickerson; father, Thomas H. Dickerson, Sr.; and sister, Alice Elaine Cooper. She is survived by sister, Pearl Campbell, of Seattle, Washington; brother, Thomas H. Dickerson Jr., of Renton, Washington; brother, John R. Dickerson, of Seattle, Washington; sister, Roma Sue Carrasquillo, of Seattle, Washington and Darrell (Cynthia) Dickerson of Lynnwood, Washington; sister-in-law, Norma Dickerson, of Bakersfield, California, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and many friends worldwide that were dear to her. The family would like to give special thanks to her friend, Murph Gagnon, for overseeing her care. Harold Robert "Bob" Davisson passed away after a long illness. He was a devoted husband to his wife Lorraine for 60 years and a loving father to his sons Thomas and Steve. He is survived by brother Rick. Bob was born and raised in Los Angeles and relocated to San Jose in 1965. He was employed by United California Bank and First Interstate Bank which merged with Wells Fargo.

Bob loved playing golf with his friends and was an active member of Almaden Country Club where he served two terms on the board and one term as President.

Sam Lum was born on March 31, 1930 in New York, New York and passed away on March 11, 2013 in San Jose, California. He was 82 years old.

Surrounded by her family, Eva Marguerite Crawford Wood peacefully entered into rest on March 7, 2013. She was 87. Eva was born on May 31, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to Sloan and Marguerite Crawford. Raised in Chicago, she met her future husband, Thurman A. Wood. They were married in 1943 at Goodfellow Field in San Angelo, Texas. In 1947, following World War II they moved to Los Gatos, California, where they raised five children.

Eva retired after thirty years as a Psychiatric Technician at Agnews State Hospital. She traveled to Europe and China, became a Deaconess for the Los Gatos Presbyterian Church, was a Regent for the DAR, a member of the Los Gatos History Club and Ming Quong Guild. Eva had a deep love for her husband and children, cats, and gardening. She was an avid Anglophile and collector of antiques.

She leaves behind sister Marguerite Lloyd (John) of Oakdale; five children: Marguerite Dahl (Gary), Eva Wright (Ed), Louise Blake (Ron), Bruce Wood, and Brent Wood (Nancy). She also leaves behind ten grandchildren: Vicki Pershing, Albert and Jason Vieth, Amy Ferrari, Ben and Samuel Blake, Keith and Bryan Wood, Ashley McDonald and AJ Wood; four great-grandchildren and two nephews.

A memorial service at Los Gatos Presbyterian Church will be held Thursday, March 14th at 2:00 PM.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Zaslow; son, David Zaslow (Deidre Argyle); sister, Dr. Marilyn Farquhar; step-brother, Barton Smith; cousins; nieces; nephews; and many close friends who were considered family.

Born and raised in Tulare, California, to Brooks and Alta Gist, she graduated from UC Berkeley and worked as a psychologist and accountant. Janette was a loving, caring, concerned mother, sister and aunt. She was generous, funny, engaging, and thoughtful. She loved to talk about the Gist family genealogy, food, travel, art, and life.

A private funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Tulare History Museum. A memorial fund has been established in Janette's name to support the Alzheimer's Association. Donations can be made at alz.org.

Rosemary will be deeply missed by all. She had a loving and giving spirit. She loved cooking, gardening, music, dancing and entertaining friends and family.

Ted was born in Alameda, California on August 24, 1922. He passed away peacefully in Los Gatos, California on February 7, 2013 at the age of 90. Most of his life was spent living in Saratoga and Los Gatos. Ted was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army from January 1944 to April 1946. He fought in the European theater and served as part of the Army of Occupation. Among other citations, he was awarded the Purple Heart.

He earned his BA in 1947 and LL.B. in 1949, both from Stanford University; he went on to earn his M.A. in 1955 and his Ph.D. in 1960, both from the University of Chicago.

Ted was a noted professor in the Department of Political Science at San Jose State University from the fall of 1960 to 1993 at which time he was awarded Emeritus status by SJSU President Robert Caret. Ted specialized in teaching Constitutional Law resulting in many students interested in becoming lawyers learning case law from Norton's course.

From 1963 until his retirement Ted was a very active member of the University's Academic Senate, chairing multiple committees; drafting more policies and resolutions than any other individual; serving as the Senate's unofficial parliamentarian and as its chair on two occasions; in 1970 and again in 1982. He continued to serve as an honorary senator after his retirement and in 1992 wrote a comprehensive history of the senate. He also authored "Police Power, Planning and Aesthetics" (1967) and was co-editor of "Studies in Socialist Pedagogy" (1979).

Ted enjoyed travelling, gardening and reading. He was a member of the California State Bar Association, served on the Planning Commission for the City of Saratoga and was an active member of the Saratoga Men's Club. He is survived by his niece, Anne Norton Ayer and his two nephews, Robert Rule and Steven Rule, two grandnephews, two grandnieces, a great-grandniece and several cousins. The family has planned a memorial service for one o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in Saratoga, California. There will be a brief reception following the service.

Betty Lou passed away peacefully on February 3 in Santa Clara. She was born on January 17, 1917 in Omaha, Nebraska. She graduated from the University of Nebraska and was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. Betty Lou got her Master's Degree at San Jose State. She taught for 12 years at Presentation High School in San Jose.

She is survived by her daughters, Emy Gurowitz (Ed), and Kate Jones; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 2 at 11am at Christ The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1550 Meridian Avenue, San Jose.

Masato was born January 27, 1916 in Santa Rosa, California. He married his wife of 68 years, Mariko Teruko Sameshima, March 11, 1943, and they lived most of their lives in San Francisco. Mariko passed away Feb. 4, 2011.

Masato was a Good Man, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Mas enjoyed fishing, bonsai, and volunteering with Boy Scout Troop 58 in San Francisco. His sense of humor was ever present and always a source of enjoyment.

A brilliant, witty, wise, clever and brave husband, Victor leaves, to be cherished in memory by, his loving wife, Michelle Wahl, of Boulder Creek; a caring mother-in-law, Lois Smith, of Yreka; his son, Nicholas Wahl, of Reno, Nevada; his two step-children, Jeffrey Hopson (Victoria), of Long Beach and Amelia Shaw (Mick), of Boulder Creek; his brother, Steve Wahl, of Chester; and sister, Sandy Wahl (Danny), of Chester. He leaves behind 20 admiring nieces and nephews and is also survived by many devoted colleagues and alumni. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor Sr. and Marjorie Wahl, of Los Altos.

A native of San Francisco, he was a proud and an active alumnus with "the infamous class of 1968 Los Altos Knights". At UC Davis in 1972, he earned a double major in Political Science and Rhetoric with a minor in English Literature. He graduated from McGeorge law school and was admitted into the California Bar Association in December, 1977.

He dedicated his life to defending the rights of children, leaving a lasting impression on thousands of lives over the span of his 35 years of practice. He was voted Attorney most likely to be "In Trial" by his office associates.

Victor was a grill master, enjoyed cooking, traveling, scuba diving, snow and water skiing, golfing and woodworking. He coached Little League and California Youth Organization soccer in Los Altos. He was a dedicated '49er fan.

A celebration of Victor's life will be held on March 2, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 13005 Pine Street, Boulder Creek, with a gathering in the hall to follow.
