Arlene Joyce Gray, 68, passed away in San Francisco, CA after a fierce and mighty 5-year battle with cancer. Born in Elizabeth, NJ and raised in Saratoga, CA, she lived the last 40 years of her life in Visalia, CA. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree and teaching credential in French from Brigham Young University in 1976, adding an English teaching credential from Fresno State University in 1991. While teaching full time, she completed her Masters Degree in Counseling and Psychology from National University in Fresno in 2008, followed by the completion of many hundreds of supervised professional experience hours.
Beloved by her family, students and friends, she was caring and sweet with a dash of silly. Her firm faith in Christ and kind heart compelled her to believe and invest in the potential that others could not see in themselves. For the last 20 years she passionately partnered with local charity organizations, spearheading dozens of local drives including winter coats for kids, holiday food and Christmas toy collections.
As a French and English teacher at Parlier High School for 25 years, Mrs. Miller/Smith relentlessly encouraged her students, actively removing barriers to their success. Many students attribute her 1:1 mentorship to their successful journeys to become the first in their family to attend and graduate college.
A devoted Mother, she gave her sons unwavering love and support through every trial and tribulation while also celebrating every triumph, big or small along the way. As a doting "Grammy" to her 5 grandchildren, she showed boundless generosity and devotion that depened her sons understanding of just how profound her love was for them.
Her friends and family will remember her with admiration, affection, and love. "I would rather hurt with memories sweet than to have never loved and no reason to weep."
Arlene is survived by her 3 sons, Joel Eric Smith of Las Vegas, Aaron Mark Smith of San Francisco, and Daniel Ryan Smith of Visalia; her son-in-law, Justin Eugene Donahue of San Francisco; her sister, Linda Gray Stiborek and family of Tracy, CA; and her 5 grandchildren, Abigail Constance Smith of Laie, HI, Joel Jonathan (JJ) Smith of Las Vegas, Lucas Mark Smith of Las Vegas, Leo Gray-Donahue of San Francisco and Liliana Justine Gray-Donahue of San Francisco.

Jimmy was a hardworking man and had been working for Kaiser Permanente since 1988 in Material Management, continuously serving in the healthcare industry until the day he passed.
Jimmy was a very easy going and kind hearted man. With his magnetic charisma, he easily made friends instantly wherever he went. His quick wit and sense of humor was loved by all that knew him, especially Josiane Linda Vasquez, who in 1994 married Jimmy and started their family, Jeremy H. Mariscal (30), Jerrad D. Mariscal (24) and Jessica A. Mariscal (19).
Jimmy loved his wife. Together they had built a life centered around happy moments and strong Christian values. He enjoyed being around his family and supporting his kids as they grew older through all their sporting school events and leagues. If he was able to, he always went to every game no matter the distance and was always the biggest supporter to his children. His support continued by him going to sporting events for his grandchildren, Jeremiah Mariscal (11) and Jaythan Mariscal (5). His granddaughter Jaeyce Mariscal (1), he simply enjoyed the little moments of watching her grow. When he was not at games, he was in the comfort of his home with his fur babies, Juicy, Jojo, and Jada, which by choice were all named a "J" initial name to continue the unique tradition his family chose to keep.
Jimmy passed on to his heavenly father on November 19, 2021 with his family by his side. Proudly, Jimmy's family legacy continues as the close family values and religious morals are forever a reflection of how the Mariscal name will be strongly remembered.

Los Gatos, CA. See below.
Interment of Cremated Remains:

Karen Anne Kuehnis, both a San Jose, and longtime Incline Village, NV resident passed away on September 30th, 2021 at the age of 79 after enduring a 7 month battle with progressive ALS. She was surrounded by close friends and family that loved her, keeping her comfortable and anxiety-free. Even though this disease took her away from this world, she will always be remembered as a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and a devoted volunteer of her community.
Karen grew up in Southern California. After graduating from high school, Karen moved to San Jose following her dreams of becoming a nurse. She graduated from O'Connor Nursing School with other strong women who became life-long friends. She also met her husband, Floyd Kuehnis, whom she was happily married to for 50 years. Together they had 2 daughters, Kelly and Stacy.
Floyd’s job with KPMG took Karen and their young daughters from San Jose to Los Angeles, New York, and back to San Jose where they settled into Los Gatos for 11 years. After the daughters were grown, Floyd's job took Karen to Minneapolis for 10 years. After retirement, they chose to settle in beautiful Lake Tahoe where Karen joyously spent the next 25 years. Karen moved back to San Jose in 2020 to be closer to family. Over the 25 years in Lake Tahoe, Nevada she enjoyed many activities including golfing, hiking, playing bridge, and she passionately spent hundreds of hours volunteering.
Karen never said no to those in need. She was devoted to her volunteer work and serving her community. She confidently orchestrated successful fundraising events - from large Christmas extravaganzas and golf tournaments to community garage sales and silent auctions. She volunteered to write the newsletters and was an active member of many organizations including the Children’s Cabinet, Pet Network, Local Hospital Auxiliary, Republican Women’s Group, Incline Village Golf Club, Bridge club, and Tahoe Trampers.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly & Tim, and Stacy & Matt; her two grandsons, Miles & Nelson; her sibling, Jon Warnick; and her two loving dachshunds, Annie & Lucy, now living happily at Stacy's. She will be missed very much and never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Friday, October 29th in Los Gatos, California. Please contact her daughter, Stacy Kuehnis, skuehnis@gmail.com, for more details if you wish to attend.

Edwin Acosta Jaramilla was born on September 9th, 1952 at Sampaloc Manila, Philippines. He was the fourth child of six from his father, Jose Jaramilla and his mother, Anacleta Acosta Pimentel. From a very young age, Edwin was already helping to provide financially for his family and assisting his mother in raising his younger siblings. With the kind support of his second eldest sister, Estrella Jaramilla Yoshino, he was able to complete his education and earn a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from National University in Manila, Philippines. His degree led to a job at BF Goodrich where he met a beautiful young woman, Realina De Paz Rosal, who would later become his loving wife.
The happily married couple would then purchase their first property in Marikina Manila, Philippines. While their new home was under construction, Edwin would accept contract work for Chingola, Zambia where eventually his eldest son, Mark Rosal Jaramilla, was born. He then moved on to another lucrative contractual employment with Saudi Electric Company in Saudi Arabia while his little family stayed back in Marikina. During this time, he was able to start several businesses including a chain of dim sum restaurants and a pawn brokerage firm. Soon after, his youngest daughter, Geneive Rosal Jaramilla was born and this was when Edwin decided to seek out new opportunities and a better life for his family elsewhere.
In 1988, he moved his family to the United States of America and purchased his second home in Sunnyvale, CA. The once poor young barrio boy was now a proud immigrant American landowner. After a series of odd jobs, he would settle in to serve as an Electrician for Owens Corning Fiberglass for the next 25 years. His normal work day consisted of 12 hour shifts while using his spare time and money investing into the stock market and building his portfolio. Edwin worked hard and yet he always found time to spend with his family. Every time his schedule allowed it, he always made sure to sit down and have a meal with his wife and children. He enjoyed traveling to see his extended family and old friends as well as taking family vacations. Disneyland and Universal Studios were some of the children’s favorites but when his kids were old enough, he really enjoyed seeing the bright lights and shows of Las Vegas. He loved live music. When his children were in college, he supported and encouraged his wife when she expressed her desire to also get an education and find a career of her own. On his days off, Edwin was always working on something. He prided himself in maintaining his handful of cars and Sunnyvale home, lending his hand and knowledge to his friends and family with their own maintenance projects, then eventually renovating and installing a second floor on his Sunnyvale property. Edwin had created a home that would become a safe harbor where his family could always land in the most frigid of weather, a beacon of safety and solid footing that he never felt he had in his childhood and wanted to create for his wife and children.
In the latter part of his career, Edwin worked as an independent contractor with various Bay Area agencies like Aerotek Energy, Solid Personnel, and Hire Forces but his most recent and proudest work was joining the team at Apple, Inc. as a Senior On-Site Electrician in Cupertino, CA. During this time in his life Edwin enjoyed running, weight lifting, following the stock exchange, and watching Shark Tank. His greatest joys were to hold and kiss his wife and children at every moment they would meet. He truly loved every occasion they shared, fondly recalling and retelling the same stories and laughing from the heart. Edwin was never short of laughter and his laugh could be heard a mile away.
On October of 2020, Edwin was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma multiforme. He and his family fought day and night in a battle that was not to be won. He passed due to complications of the disease on September 21st, 2021 surrounded by his wife and two children. He seemed very happy and content as he opened his eyes one last time and drew his last breath peacefully in the comfort of his home at Sunnyvale, CA.

Eulogy
My name is Joseph Fitch. I’m one of Margaret’s brothers. I’d like to tell you a little about our sister.
Margaret Ann Fitch was born at 11:20 pm on Saturday, April 22, 1944 in San Francisco to PFC Melvin George Fitch, US Army, while on duty in Hawaii and Marguerite Elizabeth Torley Fitch. She was the oldest of their eight children. Since her father was in Hawaii when she was born, he wasn’t able to meet her until the war ended and he was brought back to the mainland and discharged 17 months later. That must have been hard for him, his first child and first daughter named after Marguerite’s mother Margaret Hoss Torley.
Margaret passed away peacefully in loving care at 2:28 am on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Board and Care Home where she was residing. She was 77 years old.
She was baptized as a child and was a very devout Catholic all her life, even attending mass on-line during COVID.
She had a happy childhood in San Francisco and South San Francisco where she grew up. She seems to have found her calling early as she even worked in the local library while in High School. She also used to produce Shakespearean plays in our living room to an audience of 1, our mother, who always enjoyed them. She would cut out the paper dolls and their costumes and make the sets. Some of the rest us used to help her with these plays and move the dolls around and read the lines. I wonder, did she know that she was practicing for her puppet shows 30 years later?
Upon graduating from High School she moved to San Jose, California to attend San Jose State University to pursue a degree in Library Science. To say that Margaret loved to read would be an understatement, but she also loved to share her love of reading with anyone and everyone she could, especially children, nieces, nephews, neighbors, friends and strangers, but if you met Margaret you soon weren’t a stranger.
She worked as a Children’s Librarian for the City of San Jose Library System for 30 years, until her retirement in 2004. Even in her retirement she volunteered at the Library and still put on puppet shows, read “story time” and assisted with book sales to support the Library and children’s programs.
Margaret never married and yet she was surrounded by children her whole life.
Margaret also loved to travel and traveled extensively throughout her life to Britain, Europe, Africa to see her sister, the Caribbean to see a collage friend and around the United States including to Illinois to visit our fathers side of the family both alone and with family and friends.
She also deeply loved animals and had many pets throughout her life both cats and dogs and supported many animal causes.
Margaret left our family some lasting legacies.
She was introduced to a form of Indian dancing called Bharatanatyam through a patron in her library that invited her to attend her own graduation dance recital, and she told me about it and I attended and then attended many many dance recitals for decades after that, because Margaret shared this with me.
Another Legacy, and I don’t know how she found out about the Free Stanford Archaeology lectures, but she started going about 40 years ago and eventually our mother started going with her, then a sister started going, then I started going, then my girlfriend, then her friend and Margaret attended these lectures until walking and breathing became too difficult; then, after we would attend a lecture, we would drive straight to Margaret’s house and tell her all about the lecture we had just seen, then during COVID the Lectures were moved to on-line and while in the Care Home we were able to bring in a Laptop and allow her to watch the lecture live on-line; so again it just keeps going.
She introduced our family to Quizzes. At some family event looong ago, we were all finished for the night and sitting around relaxing and she pulled out some Quizzes she had gotten from the newspaper and started reading them and we all have fun guessing at the answers. This again continues to this day whenever we get together.
So, I can’t help but think of Margaret every time I think of Bharatanatyam Dance, Archaeology lectures or do quizzes.
She was predeceased by her parents, her father in 1975 and her mother in 2010 and her brother-in-law Robert Obo. She is survived by her seven brothers and sisters, Alice Obot, Charles Fitch (Maureen), Joseph Fitch, Barbara Fitch, Stephen Fitch, Mark Fitch (Wendy) and Tom Fitch (Diane) and by eight nieces and nephews, Bassey Obot (Jennifer), Uwem Obot (Irish), Ian Fitch, Kelly Fitch, Jennifer Fitch (Robert Zacher), Alison Fitch, Rebecca Fitch, and Annabelle Fitch and three great nieces and nephews and that’s a ‘great’ in both senses of the word, Jack Obot, Samantha Obot and Cassidy Obot all of the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
She was exceedingly kind, had a heart of gold, and never had an unkind word to say about anyone. She was loved by all who met her. She was a great inspiration and made the world a better place. She will be greatly missed.

Richard Alan Lawson

Sunnyvale, California
Interment of Cremated Remains:
Residence
Richard Alan Lawson (Rich) moved to the next chapter of his life from his home in Sunnyvale, CA on August 21st, 2021 at the age of 86 holding the hand of his devoted wife of 32 years, Vicky. He left her a love note almost every single day they were together. They had a one of a kind love story for sure as is so clear by his devotion and words from his heart and poetry to her.
Rich was born in Kansas City, MO in 1935 during the Great Depression. He was predeceased by his parents, Jessie and Wilbur Lawson; his daughter-in-law, Paula; and his older sister, Jane Louise. He loved his three children, Richard Jr of Troy, MI, Karl (Lisa) of Clarkston, MI; and Karsten of Chicago, IL. Rich was especially proud of his grandson, Jack Henry, who lives in Tel Aviv, Israel. He had a special space in his heart for his sister-in-law and her husband, Mary Lou & Bret Waller; and best friends, Nanette, Dan, Rock, Steve and Mitch.
Rich grew up in a small town in Missouri, and as a child, he spent time with his dog going on hikes and exploring farms and woods. His favorite past times were playing the piano, reading, and writing poetry. Music intoxicated Rich and he once thought he might become a composer.
Rich's first real job was as an engineer for Ford Motor Company. After getting his Masters in literature from Wayne State University, however, he followed his dream of becoming an elementary school teacher. His first teaching job in Michigan was at Roeper City & Country School, an innovative school for gifted children. Twelve years later he moved to California and found his perfect job at the Nueva Center for Learning in Hillsbourgh. His favorite subject was teaching his students about writing. He felt this was an important part of their education and their lives. He was turned on to the power of words and found that his days were never quite complete unless he had put pen to paper. He found that writing filled a certain place in his life and treated it as a friend.
Rich always enjoyed acting and performing. His most famous and challenging role was that of 3rd & 4th grade teacher at Nueva Center for Learning where he drew on all of his improvisational and professional skills for his long running role. A truly amazing teacher, he wrote 12 musicals-dramas usually based on folk or fairy tales with original songs and music so the students could display their special talents. As a testament to his devotion to his profession, Rich was honored as a Disney Teacher of the Year semi-finalist in 1994. He touched and inspired the lives of so many students and their parents with his multiple skills and talents. He showed his students how to laugh, how to relish their creativity, and how to love writing and language.
After Rich retired he continued his love of poetry by writing and participating in numerous poetry readings, conferences and workshops. One of his poems was included in the book, A Passion for Teaching. In 2012 Rich self published his first book, The Tree in the Middle of the Playground about writing and understanding poetry. In 2015, his second book, Something about Missouri was published. Rich displayed his love every day with his gentle disposition, kind words, and beautiful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed but will always be remembered and celebrated in our hearts.
Rich wrote an early obituary, which included, "I hope that those I let down and disappointed, those I wasn't nice to, and those I couldn't reach will forgive me . . . I'll miss some things a lot: classical music, jazz, reading, poetry and movies. I'll miss martinis, and chocolate, and good coffee. I will miss my children and grandson. Most of all I'll miss my wife, Vicky."

Lois was a proud sister to Susan Kolpack and mother of three children: Cristy May, Farrell May Podgorsek (Ken) and Matthew May (Stacey). She was also “Gramoo” to 6 grandchildren and will be dearly missed by all. Lois will be cherished for her natural gifts of beauty, warmth and generosity. She loved children and had a soft spot for all animals, especially Sybil, her beloved Airedale Terrier. She will be etched in our memories for her acquired gift of striking elegance, which she applied to drawing, calligraphy, gift-wrapping, clothing design as well as a specialty in using color. Specifically, Lois applied her love of art and aesthetics to the design of custom ceramic tile. Under the company name Maybrik, it has been featured on many buildings, subways and floors across the country. She partnered with her first husband, Stanley, to help build a business where she jumped into working sales and design. Despite each long day, she would come home every night to cook dinner for her children or go out to appreciate theater, music, and art openings that she enjoyed.
Lois was most alive when she was dancing, particularly Martha Graham style modern dance. She thrived on attending and hosting celebrations as well as cooking for friends and for non-profit organizations under her moniker, Briskets etc. She loved bringing family together in the warm home she helped design. She brought out the elegance in any presentation, be it a table setting, a garden, a family event or wedding. Her pleasures included travel, visits with her relatives and especially her grandchildren. She deftly managed the finances in the family and was generous in gifts to all whom she adored. Lois exhibited a poise, charm and grace as she dressed with such a style as to catch the eye of strangers and even famous Hollywood actors. “Your ring isn’t big enough” said a passing gentleman, summing up her beauty in one simple phrase.
Lois grew up on the East Coast. Taught by her beloved Uncle Milt, Lois was an avid swimmer. At her beloved summer camps she excelled at archery, lifeguarding and other sports. When her family moved to Los Angeles, Lois followed. She attended UCLA, joining the sorority AEphi and then studied clothing design at Trade Tech. Lois's interest in science led her to work as a doctor’s assistant and set up a Vision and Hearing Program in the local elementary school.
Lois was married a second time to Owen Muller, who cherished her and whose family will also dearly miss her. Family on all sides will keep her close in their hearts, including step-daughter Lane, and Andres, Chilean student whom she sponsored to live in the US.
Lois lived her last years at Palm Villas Memory Care facility, where she was exquisitely cared for by Esmeralda, who will carry our mother in her heart always. She passed away peacefully after suffering for many years with Alzheimer's Disease, with family holding her hands and calls coming from grandchildren up to her last breath. We are indebted to Esmeralda for her loving touch and know that Lois is dancing and smiling down on her and others, happy to be reunited with her dearly loved ones. She left the world a little better than it was before her presence on it.

Dennis Joseph Ward, age 72, was born and raised in Redwood City. Upon graduating from Serra High School, Dennis played football for the College of San Mateo and the UCSB Gauchos. His sportsmanship continued on the field with the Old Blues rugby team and in the law offices of Ropers, Majeski, Kohn, and Bentley as a trial attorney for the last 42 years.
Dennis had an undeniable passion for life. From his unparalleled sense of humor, to his profound generosity and loyalty, he truly did everything in his power to show you how much he loved you. When you couldn't find him flying his kite at the beach or surfing, you'd be guaranteed to hear him. He loved the bagpipes and spent several years playing alongside the San Jose Police Emerald Society and the Sheriff's Pipes and Drums. For family and friends there were only a few rules to live by: You always laugh at his jokes. Dennis is your favorite uncle. And if plan A doesn't work out, we move to plan B.
He is survived by his wife, Gina; daughters, Carmen (Dakota Mattert) and Sara; grandson, Noah; siblings; cousins; and friends. For everyone who shared in his life, it is hoped that you carry his kindness, integrity, humor, and heart of gold with you.

Barry Emile Benoit
June 4, 1930 - July 31, 2021
San Jose, California
Interment of Cremated Remains:
Residence
Barry Benoit died peacefully at home in San Jose on July 31st. He was 91. He was the nicest, kindest man. He was genuine, humble and hard working. A caring father, devoted husband, and brilliant engineer, remembered as a fatherly mentor by many people.
Born June 4th, 1930, in San Jose, Barry was a descendent of French and Chilean immigrants who came to California during the gold rush and settled in San Jose in 1850. One of six children, his first job was delivering medications by bike from his father's pharmacy - Wolff Drug. He attended Sacred Heart School, Bellarmine College Prep, and San Jose High School.
He enjoyed taking apart engines and could build anything electrical or mechanical. He was athletic, competitive, and enjoyed boxing and team tennis. He joined the Air Force Military Police. He graduated from San Jose State in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Varian Associates, Sylvania and GTE locally; Goodyear Aerospace in AZ, and Lockheed-Martin in Colorado. His greatest career achievement came in leading a team of engineers designing top secret high resolution radar systems for reconnaissance aircraft such as the U2 and SR 71 Blackbird. He last worked at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.
He loved life with wife Carole McKay, a San Jose school teacher, for more than thirty years. They had extraordinary life long friends and neighbors. They had both been married previously, and brought adult children to the family. They encouraged their children and grandchildren to excel in life, in school, and at work. Together, they shared the joy of grandparenting and the tragic loss of Carole's adult son Scott. They held their faith at Trinity Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir, he joined the men's Bible study, and they volunteered their time with Second Harvest Food Bank.
After retiring, he relished the five-year, full renovation, of a 1930's three-story English Tudor home in Denver. Every bit by hand. He rebuilt much of every home they shared. They bravely faced a number of health challenges together over their later years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carole McKay; her son, Scott; his parents, Emile and Frances; his siblings, Bernard, Barbara, and Kathleen; and many dear friends. He is survived by his sisters, Eloise Renelle and Claudette Perry, both of San Jose; his sons, Steve Benoit and Larry Bushy of Nevada City, CA; his daughter, Leslie McKay Storck of Los Altos; his grandchildren, Brenden and Deanna Storck; and many dear cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dorothy Jackson Emerson was born in Los Angeles, California September 24, 1927. After a valiant fight against cancer, Dorothy passed away peacefully at home in San Jose, California on May 10, 2021, surrounded by loved ones.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, William Emerson; her daughter, Ella (Gary); and her granddaughter, Sabrina. She is survived by her grandchildren, Adrianna Houseweart (John Paul) and Joshua Houseweart; her best friend of over eighty years, Adele Smith; as well as numerous family and friends.
Dorothy graduated from Washington High School in Fremont, California in 1945. In 1949, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science at UC Berkeley.
Dorothy in her younger days flew with Pan Am. She was one of the first Stewardesses that was allowed to fly as a married woman. From 1951 to 1964, Dorothy was a part of Pan Am’s first “around the world” service and flew transatlantic and domestic flights. She loved to share stories of all her travels and all the interesting places and people she met during her years with Pan Am.
Dorothy married William Emerson (Bill) on November 3, 1956. Dorothy and Bill loved to travel the world. Dorothy would tell of all their adventures, the places they went, the wonderful people they met, and the treasures she would find and have shipped home to remind her of all the places she loved to visit.
Another first, Dorothy organized the first Special Education program at the Cupertino High School campus. She began teaching at Cupertino High School in the Fremont Union High School District in 1968. Dorothy wanted all students to succeed to their potential, and she saw a need at the high school level, so she returned to college to continue her education at the University of Santa Clara where she received a Master’s in Psychology & Counseling in 1972, a Master’s in Special Education in 1979 and a Master’s in Administration in 1981.
In 1981, Dorothy became the Director of Special Services where she went on to lead the Fremont Union High School District Special Education program in its beginning stages and set the basis for the strong Special Education program in the district today. Dorothy retired from the Fremont Union High School District in 1991, but she continued to stay in touch with all her dear school district friends, going to luncheons and with frequent phone conversations until the day she passed.
Dorothy lost the love of her life August 8, 2001, when Bill passed away. But during their 44 years together, Dorothy and Bill loved to entertain friends at their home, whether it was a fancy dinner party or a backyard BBQ, and they always welcomed all the neighborhood children to swim in their pool.
Dorothy and Bill were longtime members of the Saratoga Country Club where they enjoyed playing golf, attending social events, hosting parties, and entertaining friends on special occasions. Dorothy had standing reservations for Easter and Christmas Eve at the Club. She anxiously awaited for Covid to be over, so she could make up for all the celebrations she missed.
Dorothy and Bill were also avid 49er fans. They shared fond memories of attending the Super Bowl to cheer on the 49ers. Dorothy loved watching football, and one of her last wishes was wanting to see the 49ers go to the Super Bowl one last time.
Throughout her 93 years, Dorothy touched so many lives. She was kind, caring, compassionate and very giving. She loved all people and all animals. We can find comfort in knowing she is now at peace in Heaven, along with her husband Bill and many other loved ones that passed before her. Dorothy will forever be in our hearts and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Armida Mesa (Steve), Connie Young (Michael), Alice Castillo, Santos Martinez, Delia Salazar, Rudy Martinez, Esther Lorigo, Leticia Barragan (John), Sylvia Torres (Tony), and Monica Mendoza (Santos).
Socorro grew up where field work consisted of hoeing the sugar beets and lettuce fields of Arizona and California using the short handle hoes to weed in the fields. The short handle hoes were eventually banned in the 1970's because even though it was an easier way for farmers to keep track of the workers, it was a back breaking method of weeding. Her mother, "Grandma Concha" followed the crops to work in California and finally decided to settle in California (Thank God). They continued to work in agriculture picking every kind of fruit and vegetable available. Life was never easy for Socorro. She was taken out of school in the fourth grade and regardless of all of the obstacles in her life she managed to learn to read and write in English and Spanish.
Socorro had many good qualities and hobbies. She loved God and singing praises to Him. She enjoyed drawing, cooking and she made the best flour tortillas in the world. She loved spending time with her family and she loved her fury friend Charlie. She loved babies and children although she had 12 children of her own, 38 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will always be grateful to God for allowing them to usher Socorro peacefully into the heavens surrounded by her children and grandchildren in the comfort of her home.

Mary Jane Berryessa, 80, passed away on March 25, 2021. She was born to Riko "Roy" Jurich and Jane Ferrante-Jurich on November 7, 1940 in Monterey, CA.
Mary met Melvin Berryessa in 1957. Melvin was from the Willow Glen area of San Jose and Mary was from Campbell. Campbell, in those days was considered "the sticks" and their courtship was said to be "across the tracks"- Literally the train tracks ran through Campbell and San Jose. Their love persevered and quickly they were engaged. They were married on October 4. 1958 at Saint Lucy's Church in Campbell. Together they had 5 children: Cynthia, James, Mary, Julie and John.
Melvin built their family home in Campbell in 1963. Mary was happy to be a wife and mother. She always hosted the family holidays. Traditions were a central part of family life. When the children were grown, she went to work at a retail store called the Queen Bee in Town and Country Village for about 8 years and later as a florist. She became a grandmother to two grandsons and retired to be a full-time grandmother the minute they came into her life. Between Mary and Mel, aka; Grams and Gramps they had many years of nurturing and enjoying the next generation. Her next biggest passion was quilting. She designed and created the most beautiful quilts that are displayed and cherished in family homes. Her quilting group misses her as much as she missed them and she would want to mention them: Quilting buddy's, Teri and Carol and lifelong best friends Darleen and Connie.
Mary is survived by her husband, Melvin; children, Mary Reese (Cliff), Julie, and John; grandchildren, Daniel Reese (Jessica), and Michael Reese (Desiree); a future great-granddaughter of Daniel and Jessica due in August, 2021; brother, Michael Jurich; & sister-in-law, Bonnie Hopper.

Ramon Victorio Reyes was born June 5th, 1932 in the Philippine Islands, in Caloocan, near Manila, the only child of Ramon Victorio Reyes Sr., a newspaper reporter, and Ligaya Victorio, a writer and novelist. During World War II, both Ramon Sr. and Ligaya were secretly helping the resistance as guerrilla fighters. Tragically, an idyllic childhood was first disrupted, by World War II and the invasion of the Philippines, then shattered in 1944 when Ramon Reyes Sr. was murdered by an traitorous gunman’s bullets.
After surviving World War II, Ramon and his mother moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where Ligaya was working for the Philippine Consulate. He graduated from St Louis High School in Honolulu, then moved to California to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1955.
Upon college graduation, Ramon worked briefly as a reporter for the New York Globe newspaper. It was there in New York City where he met the love of his life, Diana Chin. The couple were married in 1955. Five children were born and raised by Ramon and Diana: Donna Reyes Chandler of Lompoc, Santa Barbara County, and four sons, Eric, of San Jose, Fred Anthony of Kauai, Hawaii, Gabe Paul of Castro Valley, Alameda County, and Howard of Mililani, Hawaii.
Moving back to California, Ramon dedicated the next 20 years to teaching elementary school for the Ceres Unified School District. He found tremendous satisfaction in teaching youth. During this time, Ray very much enjoyed playing keyboard with his bandmates in the group, The King’s Five. They would often play for civic groups such as the Eagles Club and Elks Club. Other favorite activities were fishing with the family and cooling off in the backyard swimming pool to beat the 100 degree Modesto summers.
Upon retiring from teaching, Ramon worked many years as a clerk for the State of California. Sadly, Diana Reyes passed away in 2011. As Ray eventually moved into an assisted living environment, he very much enjoyed playing the piano with fellow musicians and singers.
Although, due to the Covid-19 regulations at the time, family was not able to be physically present at his death, Ray was able to communicate frequently with family via Zoom and phone calls in his final days and weeks, assuring friends and family he was at peace with his declining health.
Ramon Victorio Reyes passed away on March 13th, 2021. He is survived by the five previously mentioned children, and several grandchildren: Jonathan, Keli, Daniella, Paulina, and Sofia.

Barbara Patton Moore, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2021, in Saratoga, California.
Barbara was born in July, 1938, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Hubert and Geraldine (Harris) Patton. Barbara completed her undergraduate studies at Knoxville College in 1956 and was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1960. While at Meharry, Barbara met Eddie Stanley Moore, a Virginia native studying for his Doctor of Medicine degree. Barbara and Eddie married in June of 1961 and raised two children, Eddie Jr. and Catherine.
The eldest of six children, Barbara learned early in life the value of the love of grandparents, who were her main support when she suffered severe asthma as a child. Barbara may have been small in stature, but her generous (and slightly mischievous) spirit was huge. As a teenager, Barbara helped to raise her younger siblings, gently disciplining them and encouraging their wild adventures in equal measure. She channeled her patient, caregiving nature into a career working as a nurse in hospital pediatric and pediatric intensive care units, where she was adored by her young charges for her fun and whimsical manner, as well as for her ability to give injections without causing pain.
Barbara felt blessed to have lived in some wonderful parts of the United States, including the Bronx in New York City and Portland, Oregon, before settling in the city of Chicago, and later its suburbs of Evanston and Glencoe. In Glencoe, Barbara found her dream community, becoming a tireless volunteer and community leader, devoting her time to her children’s schools, Scout troops, and youth sports teams, as well as the local League of Women Voters, in addition to working as an administrator at Highland Park Hospital. Barbara was a fixture in the neighborhood, known for her kindness and generosity, the big blue car she drove through town, her impeccable fashion sense, the elaborate Halloween costumes she handcrafted every year for her children, and the fantastic parties she hosted. The Moore house was always a favorite place for Eddie Jr. and Catherine’s friends to spend time, where everyone knew they would always be greeted by Barbara with a smile as well as a glass of Tang, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and Space Food Sticks...all on a fancy silver platter.
In 1988, Eddie and Barbara returned to her hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee when Eddie became Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Knoxville, and later Associate Dean for Medical Education and Designated Institutional Official for Graduate Medical Education. Barbara was excited to reunite with her parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, and by the opportunity to once again become a dedicated member of Oak Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, co-founded in 1868 by Barbara’s ancestors and a group of other recently freed slaves. For many years, Barbara directed the Children’s Program at Oak Grove, earning a new generation of adoring young fans. Barbara and Eddie were also active in the community and in University of Tennessee events and programs.
Travel was one of Barbara’s passions, and some of her fondest memories were of family trips to Europe, Canada, Hawaii, and sailing in the Caribbean both on a Barefoot Cruise and on a commercial cruise ship. In later years, she was thrilled to be able to take many vacations with her grandchildren, always the only one willing to sit next to her screaming grandson or granddaughter on an airplane or in the car. Barbara’s grandchildren were her greatest joy, and in 2015, when her husband retired, she was able to fulfill her dream of moving to California to be closer to her daughter Catherine, Catherine’s husband Todd, and her grandchildren Sarah and Jonah. Barbara was a permanent presence at school events, dance recitals, and soccer games (the tiniest spectator with the loudest voice), and was known as a surrogate mom and grandmother to her children and grandchildren’s friends. She will be deeply missed by her family, her friends, and all those who knew her.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Geraldine and Hubert Patton, brother Charles Patton, and sister Charlotte (Frederick) Greene. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Eddie Stanley Moore, Sr.; her children Eddie Stanley Moore, Jr. (Rosalba) and Catherine Moore Fernandez (Todd); her grandchildren Brandon Moore, Melvina Moore, Sarah Fernandez, and Jonah Fernandez; her sisters Jamesena Watson (John), Patricia Berry (James), and Shirley Patton; as well as scores of adoring nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many adult friends from Evanston, Glencoe, Knoxville, and Saratoga.
Barbara’s family is grateful to Pastor Rev. T. Dixon of her home church Oak Grove AME Zion in Knoxville who continued to provide spiritual counseling and comfort in absentia for the rest of her life in Saratoga. The family also expresses gratitude and appreciation for the professional and authentically compassionate and loving care provided to Barbara by the caregiver staff of Home Helpers in Saratoga and to the entire staff of nurses, doctors, dietitians, social workers, physical therapists, and administration at the Health Care Center at Saratoga Retirement Community.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to the Black Women’s Health Imperative, https://bwhi.org/donate, 384 Northyards Boulevard NW, Building 100/Suite 190, Atlanta, GA 30313. Due to pandemic concerns, a private service will be held for family and close friends on Friday, March 5, 2021.

we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or die, we are the

A warm, outgoing, friendly, respectful and caring mother passed away comfortably in the good company of Rose Meadows Elder Care on the evening of February 10, 2021.
Born in 1924 in Greece, Aspassia grew up with her parents and 2 other sisters in a small farming community. She survived WWII including occupancy of their home by enemy soldiers. After high school, she worked in a local court office. She later met her husband, Joseph Kreis, thru shared Los Angeles friends and were married in Greece.
Soon afterwards, she took a second brave step and relocated to a new country and much larger city, Los Angeles, became a mother of 2 boys, became a US Citizen, and enjoyed gardening, homemaking, participating in Greek Orthodox Church activities, encouraging her sons to work hard with a university education, and sharing experiences with practically anyone.
Aspassia enjoyed several parts of California with her now passed husband, including Santa Barbara, Walnut Creek, Willits, and lastly San Jose. She tolerated Joseph’s weekend fishing trips by focusing on the picnic afterwards.
She will be sorrowfully missed by the loving friends, caregivers, and 2 sons.

Our beloved mother, Audrey Morgan, passed away on February 10 after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her adoring husband, Michael Morgan Sr; and sons, Bradley Joseph, and Michael Jr.
Born Audrey Ann Ketch on April 16,1932 to Laurence and Imelda Ketch, she spent her childhood in Willow Glen. Audrey attended Saint Leo's grade school and graduated from Notre Dame High. It was while walking to school one day that Audrey met the love of her life, Michael Morgan, when she boldly asked him for a ride to school. That ride not only garnered her a date and a marriage proposal but six wild children and 67 years of wedded bliss. Audrey and Mike were the perfect couple sharing a life filled with joy and laughter. Anyone who passed through their door were immediately pulled into their magic.
As a mother, Audrey was loving and nurturing and always found a way to spend individual time with each of her children. She was a beautiful, no-nonsense, straight forward woman with an incredible sense of humor and a beautiful singing voice. She prided herself on her volunteer work with the PTA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Hospice of the Valley. Audrey was a well-read, politically savvy, outgoing woman loved by her entire family and all their friends. Audrey and Michael traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe, yet home was her favorite place on earth, and "Wife and Mother" her favorite title.
Audrey is survived by her four children, Allyson Rainieri (Dan), Tracy Morgan (Judy), Larry Morgan, and Margaret Delong (Dave); 9 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She will remain in our hearts forever.
We'd like to thank Kaiser Santa Clara Hospice for their exceptional care, her nurse, Julie and caretakers, Fea and Rose. A celebration of Audrey's life will be held at a post-Covid date.

Interment of Cremated Remains:
Residence
Don was born in July 1948 to Sergeant Owden Brown and his German civilian bride, Eva, in Hof, Germany. Don was joined three years later by brother Bernie, and another three years later by Mike. The military family would relocate numerous times during Don’s childhood; to Goose Bay, Labrador; Guam; Omaha, Nebraska; and eventually to Atwater, California. While in Omaha, Don’s father was killed tragically, and Don viewed this as a major turning point in his life. He often said it was like having life be in color, and then suddenly it all went black and white. Don’s mother remarried and soon Don found himself to be the 17 year old big brother to another baby boy, Charlie.
Don passed away from COVID-related pneumonia on January 27, 2021 at Kaiser Santa Clara. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the many doctors and nurses who took care of Don, from his ER visit at Kaiser San Jose to his 3 weeks at Kaiser Santa Clara. We would also like to thank the Palliative Care Team headed by Dr. Cohen for their support and guidance.
Don was my love; a devoted and caring husband and father; skilled in woodworking, car and motorcycle mechanics, and cooking; a charismatic leader, who readily charmed store clerks, teachers and salesmen, with a quick wit that would delight and draw you in. We, fittingly, met over the phone at work at IBM. (Those who know Don, can attest to his absolute fondness for the phone. After his stroke we used a toy telephone in therapy to help him start talking again.) I was a packaging engineer and he was a parts buyer, and I first talked to him about packaging specs for some motors. He was sarcastic and irreverent in that first call, if I remember correctly. In subsequent calls, I found him to be hilarious and spot on in his observations. We soon found we liked to call each other, even when we had no real business to discuss. We eventually met in person, liked what we saw, started dating, moved in together, and got married, about a year after our first date.
Don’s last corporate position was with IBM, as a contracts administrator. He took an 8-year bridge to retirement, to embark on what was, arguably, his most important position, that of stay-at-home dad. In 1992 that was a pretty big deal, since dads who stayed home at that time were few and far between. I remember him coming home from picking up the kids at preschool one day and lamenting that none of the other mothers would talk to him. They thought he was a flake or a loser. But he soon charmed them by bringing homemade chocolate chip cookies. And Mrs. Haddad was overjoyed to have a male helper in the classroom, who could help corral the kids and keep order. He helped in both kids’ classrooms and quickly became a favorite of several of their teachers.
Don was the founder and President of the Classic Japanese Motorcycle Club. The club’s purpose was to come together and enjoy Japanese bikes. No matter what the condition, the size, or the type, all were welcomed. He wrote a monthly newsletter, organized small group rides, and hosted an annual swap meet. Don bought and sold hundreds of bikes during this time, and loved meeting people, working a deal, talking about bikes.
Don served his country in the U.S. Army. He was inducted in February of 1971, and Honorably Discharged in November of 1972. During that time he received a National Defense Service Medal and a Marksman M16 certificate. As Don would later say, he proudly ‘flew a desk’ during the Vietnam era, stationed primarily in Germany, doing paperwork.
Don is survived by his wife, Donna Brown, and their children, Matthew and Jennifer.
Don has been cremated and, due to the ongoing pandemic, a memorial service will be held later in the summer when it’s safe to gather.

Francis Xavier Thomas, loving son, brother, father, uncle, and friend passed away January 20, 2021. He was born on November 10, 1968 in San Jose, California to Dorothy and Eli Thomas. Already blessed with seven children, Francis became part of the busy, loving, Thomas household. Francis, the youngest son, was intelligent, creative, and possessed a talent for building. From a young age, he had grand plans for his future. Francis became a Boy Scout and fell in love with the natural world. He had an innate connection to Earth’s natural splendor.
After completing high school at Bellermine College Prep, he went on to graduate from California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo. In 1991, he earned a degree in Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. Later that year, he started his own successful landscape company, Franscape, designing extraordinary outdoor environments with water features for custom homes and estates in the Silicon Valley.
In 2013, Francis began dating Julie Evarkiou and immediately fell in love. On January 23, 2015, they welcomed their precious baby girl, Jem, into the world. Jem and Julie were the light of Francis’ life.
Francis spent his final years as a proud and devoted father to Jem. They were often found playfully goofing around or in a loving embrace. Francis took great care with Jem’s bedtime rituals, reading stories and cuddling, and always taking the time to tell her that she was loved above all else.
Francis was always one with nature and no challenge could defeat him when he was creating with Mother Earth. However, Francis battled with mental illness and fought hard to get through the hardships of daily life until it finally overcame him.
Peace is what we all desire for Francis. We pray that he is resting with our loved ones in heaven. Francis leaves behind his parents, eight brothers and sisters, fourteen nieces and nephews, his beloved Julie and daughter Jem, and many friends.
The Thomas family is grateful for the outpouring of love and support from people who have come to share food, flowers, and stories of Francis. The memories and special moments shared with Francis will live on in the hearts and minds of many.

Rebecca Failano Agoo, affectionately known as Vicky, 58 years of age, of San Jose, California, passed away January 3, 2021.
She was born March 26, 1962, in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. The daughter of the late Daniel and Emilia Failano, she was the 3rd youngest of 8 siblings.
She graduated from Northern Christian College with Bachelor of Science in Commerce majoring in Accounting.
She was a loving wife to Joe Cadiz Agoo. They were together for 35 wonderful years. She was a supportive mother to Judimelle Failano Agoo.
Vicky was employed as Registration Clerk at the Kaiser San Jose Medical Center Emergency Department for 18 years, where she received multiple awards for her professionalism and her dedication. Her attention to admission details made any hospital confinement smooth and a pleasant experience to any patient and family who came to the hospital to seek care. Her coworkers found her quiet elegance and demeanor a breath of fresh air amidst the hustle and bustle of the very busy emergency room. Vicky was always reliable at work, ready to collaborate, help and assist and get the day’s work done with ease and joy.
Vicky was also an animal lover, and she took care of multiple pets that became family members, making sure that they were loved, cared for, and spoiled.
Her strong faith in God was of great value to her. Being born as an Adventist, she was raised among family and community that look to God as her savior and with the biggest hope and prayer in her heart that when the second coming comes, she will be one of those faithful who will be saved and resurrected with the Lord.
She will be missed greatly, and we look forward to meeting her again in the next morning with the Lord.
